Use of Tamiya epoxy putty

I bought some Tamiya epoxy putty the other day, on the recommendation of the guy at the LHS. Now- he’s never steered me wrong, and I don’t doubt him. He loves it. But is their some secret handshake for using it?

I mixed two small, equal parts, and tried to roll out small lines to fill some wing root gaps. But the stuff is so sticky, I could hardly work with it. I used some water, and that helped, but I just feel like I’m missing out on something technique wise.

Anybody else use it? Got some pointers?

I didn’t know Tamiya made an epoxy putty. Sorry Jon, I’m not much help. I’ve been playing around with Milliput, but haven’t really had it get sticky. It’s more like soft clay once blended up. A little tacky maybe, but nothing to cause pause.

I have had the same experienc, the putty is designed to be used to recreate details rather than as a filler take a look at this guys work http://www.naritafamily.com/howto/F14Ddiorama/photo_frame.htm and look on day 8 he uses the putty to modify the figures, he also uses it in a similar way on other build on the site. I actually use his stuff as a good guide if I get stuck on something I go and see if he has done something similar as the photos help loads(plus the fact he builds awesome models)

That diorama is un-freakin’-real. Wow.

Don’t know anything on that putty sorry, But Tecs, WOW Great Link [tup]

I fit’s the same tamiya epoxy I bought ONE time (only) that’s some real expenssive filler you have. As others have said, epoxy like this is more of a sculpting medium rather than a filler. If you do want to go the epoxy route, Milliput is far more economical and even hardware store epoxy will work.

Looks like your LHS guy’s track record just got sullied.

Tamiya EP smooths best with rubbing alcohol. You might try some Magic Sculpt as it smooths with water. Whatever it is, you just have to keep “wetting” your fingers or it will stick to ya.

ditto to that, a key thing in skulpting.
