Well this “quick & easy” build is finally done. Actually not a bad little kit, but I found out about the changes I needed to make after the fuselage was together and a coat of paint was on it.
Anyway thanks to those of you who answered my questions in the earlier post, it was a great help and I think it made a huge difference in the outcome.
This is Revell’s 1/72 AS365, USCG HH-65
I had to remove some of the rear doors as it was pointed out the HH65 doesn’t have the same door configuration as the AS365. The rear landing skid also had to be removed and I made a winch over the right hand door from some styrene strip and tubing. There was a little debate on the proper color but I went with Chevy Engine Red as it looks very close to the red / orange used on the HH-65. For some reason the USCG uses a completely different paint scheme on these helicopters than that used on other Coast Guard aircraft.
Well here it is, what I thought it would be a 3 or 4 day build turned into a 4-5 week build, but I think it was worth it. Now I’m off for the next couple of days to learn how to properly play with Dozers.
i have some photos of the machines that were on display at NASLemoore four years ago, and according to the crewman on duty with both machines that day the paint was International Orange Gloss. I will agree that I haveseen some machines that look more red than orange, but these machines were always in print, All of the machines I see here locally are I. O. .
Where did you get your markings? I need another set in 1/48 scale for the trumpeter.
Thanks, I have also heard from another that the orange on these helos is much redder in photos than in person.
The decals came with the kit, but Fireball has 1/48 Jayhawk decals in 1/48 that might work for you. I got the 1/72 Jayhawk conversion from him and the decals are very nice.
