USAF F-16 Color Scheme On Tamiya Paints

Hi. I plan to build a USAF F-16 soon and I’m wondering what would be the best mixtures using Tamiya Acrylic Colors to produce the accurate shades of gray.

From what I have read, it seems that Tamiya’s XF-24’s Dark Gray is a good match for Gunship Gray, but for the rest of the colors, it’s blank for me.

Any help regarding this matter would be most appreciated.

Thanks. [:)]

I just came across a site yesterday that may have what you’re looking for. It’s www.ipmsstockholm.com Look for color charts. It’s a wealth of info.

First off doesn’t Tamiya have any color recommendation for the FS 36270 color in the model directions?, if not can you get Humbrol Paints or Testors MM Paints there in the Phillipines? because their scolors are 125 for Gunship Gray (Testors MM FS 36118) and 126 for Neutral Gray (Testor MM FS 36270)

Belly = XF19 (underneath)
Radome GSH307 (you can also use something different here because F16 radomes come in different colors anyway)
Body = XF53 (outside of the cockpit)
Top = XF24 (the darkest area of the plane–top of the wings, etc)

Here’s mine, finished in these colors:

Thanks. [:)]

I have also been looking around as well and this is what I found:

F-16 “Egypt Scheme”

  • FS 36118 : H305; XF-24 Dark Grey
  • FS 35375 or FS 36270 : H306; XF-20 Med Grey
  • FS 36270 : H306 ; XF-53 Neut Gret
  • FS 36320 : H307 ; XF-66 Light Grey?
  • FS 36375 : H308 ; XF-19 Sky Grey?

Although I beleive applying these straight from the bottle would make the model look too dark, so I intend to add quite a lot of Flat White.

I would like to see your representation of the F-16, albert_sy2, but there’s only a red X.

Thanks again.

Hello. Please send me an email at albertsy2@gmail.com and I’ll send you a pic. You’re right it’s a little bit dark out of the bottle, with probably no scale effect. But it’s a start. Anyways, this is the 3rd F16 I’ve built, with some changes in color in between the plane, and this is the best I’ve come up with. Good luck in your endeavors! And BTW, you can replace the XF53 with the XF19, since they’ve deleted the difference between those colors on the real bird.

then again if you like a little “color” to your model you can use an agressor color like this

flanker scheme or lizzard or desert

Well I talked to the folks in the paint shop at the local ANG unit with F-16’s and they are only 2 colors now not 3, they are FS 36118 and FS 36270, the plane is mostly FS 36270 (Neutral Gray) and the dark areas are FS 36118 (Gunship Gray),

you could always use Testors light grey and Testors Gunship grey.
