Rex, are you building all of that???
I’ll just put all of those biplanes on the list. Just tell me if I misunderstood (again lol)
Looks like it might get really interesting now…
I’ll put you on hte list, John.
Welcome to this GB!

that is a really interesting release of the A-1E,I didn’t know they had a newer set out, mine has the VA-122, Blue VA-65, and USAF decal sheet
yes, I am thinking all three (or more) bipes on the bench at once,I usually build 3 or 4 jets at a time,3 bipes will take up less space than 3 Tomcats, for sure
I’m looking forward to seeing your progress, Rex!
I love the look od the F-3. Do you know of a kit of this plane in 1/48?
Clemens
I have a couple of those revell boxings with VA-122 , VA-65 and the USAF . The one I chose for this GB I got off ebay last year . The seller was in Germany and I wondered if this particular version was for the domestic market ? , as I haven’t seen another box type since .
Here’s a scan of the decal sheet and paint diagram ,
The drawings show different size underwing pods , however their not included in the kit . It’s the same sprue frames that’s in all the other Revell and Monogram release’s .
John .
Not sure quite when I’ll be able to start, but I’d like to jump in with a Hasegawa 1/72 EA-6B (just like the badge). Probably VAQ-137 from USS America, Desert Storm.
Welcome, Greg!
I’ll put you in the list.
I have Italeri’s Prowler in 1:48 somewhere in my stash. Maybe I’ll give the prowler a go too…
Clemens
Seems like a lot of you guys are building in 1/72 scale…
I will stick to the bigger models though… I just like 1/48 and 1/32 planes more
I stick to 72nd scale due to space to put the finished kits.
I have enough space for now, so no need to build smaller stuff [;)]
I think I’ll build the B-17G in 1/32 that HK-Models will produce somewhere in the near future… I love those big-ass silver birds…
Clemens
Yes! Someone else who likes the larger scales! I’m doing all these 1/72 to just do them. I got a bunch at an estate sale and have been doing these to get back into the groove of doing models…that and BISH keeps doing that darn Jedi mind trick thing on me to do more of them! [:D]
Valid point! I’m in the process of making display shelves on one whole wall (10X8) with glass shelves! Working a glass deal now.
Eagle90
Stop blaming him.
He’s doing them to all of us.
It’s not that hard to resist them
You have to use the force, my young padawan…
Clemens
LOL! Yeah, they do grow on you. I just can’t seem to get the awesome detail into them like Bish and the others can. Buy hey, I’m working on it!
Eagle90
I do a bit of everything, though I’ve always enjoyed 1/72 most. It’s actually easier to detail in some respects, as long as the vision and hand-eye coordination hold out. And display space has always been an issue.[:D]
I just called my hobby store…
…and ordered this little bird (as well as an engine for my corsair)[:D]
Thanks for the inspiration for this little fella, Rex!
I always wanted to build a model of the F3F since I saw a picture of it, but I didn’t know what plane it was [;)]
Cheers, Clemens
cool Clemens, there is going to be a world of difference between our two models
as for the AD-5N, if anyone ever wants to build any of those aircraft with “unusual pods” on them, I might be of some help in 1/72
part of my collection is showing the pods and things that hung under wings on different “weird” aircraft,so, the radar, chaff, searchlight, flare, etc pods are on my list of things to make or find in other kits,I have enough kits to build 4 of the 5 AD-5/A-1E variants (I skipped the UA-1E utility plane)
I haven’t solved finding “everything for anything”,but, I do have ways to make about 3/4 of that “interesting stuff”
Rex
Yes, Rex there will be a lot of differences between our models:
Mine is a little bit bigger and most likely easier to build, as it isn’t vacuformed
I still don’t know what color scheme i will take. Either NMF or the classic blue/grey navy colors (like on most of the wildcats)
I am sure that yours will turn out way better than mine. I have only built 2 aircraft models before and now I have an airacobra on the bench…
Clemens
Don’t sell yourself short
Once you learn to glue any plastic model together, you really can do any other just as well
a “good seam is a good seam, and a bad one is a bad one”, doesn’t matter if it is a car, plane, tank, ship, monster or space ship
besides, if enough people post in-progress photos,a person could almost learn how to build just from being in a group build, even us Auld Pharts see a new technique now and then when show and tell starts running
(pssssstttt, I am a jet modeler, mostly, that “spinny thing” goes towards the front, right?)
Rex
Well, I think you are right at the learning part and everything else, but look at my Airacobra!
The floor is a mess!
cs.finescale.com/…/149627.aspx
I got the fuse sanded nice and smooth now and I’ll post some more pics later today.
(and I think the spinning thing goes on the front of the plane, but I’m not sure about that)
Clemens
take a piece of the kit sprue
cut or file the end off at the angle you need
attach a tiny piece of sanding film or sandpaper to the tip you have created
you now have a small “spot sander”
vary this idea to whatever you have on hand, one of those Beauty Shop foam file sticks might be the ticket, you can cut those with scissors and stick or glue the piece onto a Cuticle push stick
