Does any one know where I can find pictures or drawings that show the markings and paint schemes of the Hinds that were used by the US for threat assesment at Nellis AFB? I’m starting to do a set of soviet equipment in US markings. I’ve already started a MiG-15 and I’ve reached the point where I’m ready to start researching the next one. Also if any one knows a good site that might list what was used for threat assesment, I would really appreciate it.
I have a Osprey Aerospace edition called “Aggressor Aircraft” by by Chuck Stewart that has a set of pics of VisMod Hueys set up as OpFor aircraft Mi-24’s. This was published in 1990 and has the ueys being based in Barstow CA. The Nellis book I have shows no helos, nor do any of the other Aggressor/TopGun references. If you’re interested in scans of hte Huey, let me know.
Roadkill,
I found the following. Is this what you are looking for?

Thanks to all. ajlafleche, I’ve already found the pictures of the Huey and also the Puma from Rambo and Red Dawn. I’ve filed them for future projects. Greven the picture on the site is, I think, the only one out there. It was taken at Nellis AFB During a red flag excercise. I have found references citing Ft Bliss, Tx, Nellis AFB, Nv and Wright-Patterson AFB, Oh as home base. They’re not listed officialy and it would probably be denied that they’re even here. Does any one have an idea what these colors are? It’s pretty obvious that the markings are pretty basic.
I know the Army operates two of them out of Ft Polk, LA as OPFOR (Enemy ) for the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) where light forces go for a month-long exercise. Here is a photo of one of them.
and a website for it; http://www.afa.org/magazine/nov2000/1100redflag.asp
They had one here at the NTC at Ft Irwin.,CA a couple of months ago as well.
The last exercise I went to was Desert Rescue XI down at NAS Fallon, NV. The Army sent an MI-24 and an MI-8 up there to play OPFOR for the exercise. That was in addition to the other threat aircraft located at Fallon.
If you want me to send you the pictures I took, just send me an e-mail. They were absolutely devoid of any markings and the paint scheme was a two-toned tan.
BTW, I’ve also got some good shots of Fallon’s two Hind simulating SH-60F Hawks. One is in the tan/brown paint scheme and has the russian stars, and the other is a jet black SH-60F with grey markings. It looks like the same paint scheme that was on the Pt Magu Playboy Bunny-tailed F-14.

I appreciate all the assistance I can get. I’ve ran into one brick wall after another. Officially the aircraft don’t exist. It makes me wonder what else they’re hiding. Now I have four bases for these ghosts!! Thanks Heavyarty for the web site.
The Smithsonian Museums magazine “Air and Space” had a cover story on the US Hind a few years ago. Hope this helps.
In addition to the Air and Space cover story, one of the old discovery channel “Wings” episodes featured the Mi-24 Hind D of the US Army’s OPFOR at Fort Polk, LA. It was painted in the standard green/tan camo that the Russian helos are painted with the light blue undersides. If I can remember correctly, the only markings on it were warnings for the tail rotor, yellow background with “WARNING” written in black English letters. Hope that helps.
Hey guys!!! I know the HIND from FORT POLK pretty well because I live only 20 miles from FORT POLK !!! Not only do they have the HIND they also have a Mi-8 HIP a Mi-17 HIP and a Mi-2 HOPLITE … Before 9/11 I went out there pretty offten with my video camera . But now security is tighter so i don’t go any more. Damn terrorists!!![:(!][censored] Any way as far as the colors , they use the old Warsaw patterns but change the colors very often. Genuinly though they use shades of greens, tans and browns. I hope this info is helpful…
Thanks! I have gotten some help from the aircraft forum and now I have some serial numbers.

I hope this works I’ve had lousy luck doing links. I think its because I’m computer illiterate!
Well at least the one in my inquiry on the airplane forum works. don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
Roadkill,
Did you get my Pics??? I’m standing by with the second batch (SH-60F in Hind paint schemes at Fallon).

Haven’t seen them yet. Try sending them to fishbedj@yahoo.com. For some reason the roadkill one doesn’t seem to catch everything.
I just sent them (again). This time to the fishbed account. Let me know when/if you get them and I’ll send the rest.
