Looks like the new Presidential Helo will be a version of the US101. Lockheed/Martin won the contract over Sikorsky’s S-92.
Too bad, I like the S-92 better, plus it is an all-US design. Oh well, we will see how it turns out.
Yeah, that stinks. I was lucky enough to visit the Sikorsky plant in Stratford, Cn. and those people were very nice. I think alot was running on that contract. I hope nobody loses their job. Sikorsky has always made some awesome aircraft. The policy makers may have dropped the ball on that one.
After working with Harriers, I know how difficult it can be in getting parts sourced from foreign vendors (BAe), but they’ll make it work somehow. HMX-1 always gets what it needs.
Those poor guys at HMX-1…another type/model/series A/C for them to maintain, lol.
haha, HMX won’t have any problems. It’s HMX.
Yeah…that Priority 01 does come in handy…[:D]
Plus, they can always say, “It’s for the President.” That probably does a lot to grease the skids on purchases.
Anybody got pictures of the new bird?
You might want to take a closer look at that. There is a lot more foreign content and design in the S-92 than has been widely advertised.
Should have been a US built bird. Only picture I have
It will be built in the US. In Texas as a matter of fact.
Artist concept of new Marine One, US 101:
Someone over at HeliKit news has already built a model of one too, using a 1/72 Revell British Merlin model.
Yes, there is foreign content in the S-92, something that the company has never hid. That was not the case with the VH.
Someone at PAX River thought the US 101 was the better airframe. Let’s see what the future brings…in kits.[:D]
It’s hard to find anything built entirely in the US these days I guess. Even our beloved Supercobra – the brains of the weapons systems are designed and manufactured in Israel. We once got the wrong version of a multi-function display…we knew we had a problem when all of the diagnostic menus were coming up on screen written in Hebrew!
Been working on a USAF SAR version
Will be 106th RQS when completed
I know 53E’s are 20 years old or better, but I haven’t seen any foreign built parts on ours. Here’s an idea, Marine One CH-53E. HMX already has em’. Why bother with the little boys. I know, they probably couldn’t fit on the White House lawn.
How about a Marine One V-22 someday? (far away…)
I think Im going to go against the grain on this one being in favor of the Lockheed design. SIde by Side comparison thiers was, IMO, the better design. I would liked to have seen a more "American made’ Helo take the contract but over that I would liked to have seen a better “American Made” design. This whole idea of keeping us all american really drives me up the wall if it keep us from getting our hands on more advanced equipment. If American companies want to secure government contracts they should make a greater effort to out do the compitition and quit relying on “its American Made” to sell thier products. If you have two products of equal quality then by all means buy american but dont use it to sell inferior equipment.
yeah I like the idea of the Marine One 53E… That would be awesome. I dont know much about the competition, but come on people, this is te president of the united states own private helicopter, its based on another countries design??? What type of idea is this going to give people in othwer countries?“Well americans make so much crap that the president wont even ride in a helo designed in his own country” but oh well, thats bean counters for ya.
