Upgrading the Fujimi 1/144 scale DORA railway gun model kit

Several years ago, I bought the following kit on Amazon. I was jealous of any modeler who was able to afford/get the HUGE 1/35 and 1/72 scale Dora railway gun kits that I had to have my own Dora railway gun kit. But all I could afford at the time was the smaller 1/144 scale kit. Does anybody know if there are any aftermarket detail sets for this kit? Anything like photoetch or resin or 3D parts to upgrade this model?

I’m too lazy to look it up and do the math…how big is this monster even at 1/144?

About the only picture I have to compare it to anything is this one. All the Dora gun parts/sprues laid out next to a 1/35 scale M1 tank chassis in the middle.

LOL. Wow…OK, I gotta go look up the measurements on the original

Wikipedia says it was 155+ feet long. So a little over a foot long at 1/144.

But wow…you said there are 1/35 kits out there? That would be almost 4 1/2 feet long! That might be a lifetime project for a foot-dragger like me!

There is a 1/35 scale version indeed from Soar Art. The thing is a flippin’ MONSTER

Not seeing any aftermarket details just yet but I’ve only done a preliminary search @WhatIfRebel . You chose the same scale I’d build it in if I were to take this bad boy on though. The other two are truly dedicated projects and I can’t imagine trying to take either one of those on.

Looking forward to seeing what you’ll do with this one.

Let’s put the 1/144, 1/72, and 1/35 scales in perspective. Look at the following pictures.
First picture I found on Ebay of a 1/144 scale Dora. Ruler seems to be in centimeters.
Second pic below is a 1/72 scale (?) Dora model from a contest I went to back in 2011.
Third picture below is a 1/35 scale Dora model at a contest I went to back in 2018. I’m guessing the table it is sitting on is one of those 8 foot long banquet tables.
Fourth pic below is all the parts/sprues from a 1/35 scale Dora laid out on the living room floor from a video I saw on Youtube. :open_mouth:

To be honest, I’m not going to build the 1/144 Dora straight from the box. But I am going to use parts from the kit for a future what if kitbash/scratch built project. Ever hear of the German WW2 Landkreuzer P1500? It was proposal for a very large tracked mobile artillery gun based on the German Dora railway gun. Very little information exists about the P1500 and there are no official German diagrams/blueprints of the P1500. But I’m going to base my build off of the canceled 1/144 scale P1500 that TAKOM was supposed to make and come out with, but didn’t.
