UPDATE: J-Hulk's Japanese Trio (more pix!)

Howdy, folks![:)]
Well, tonight I bought a Hewlett-Packard printer/scanner/copier/fax, so now I can scan pix of my old models (in storage in the States) and finally prove that I don’t just build armor (not that there’s anything wrong with that!).

For my first scan ever, I chose a pic of some of the last aircraft I built, from waaaay back in 1995. From the front is an Arii Ki-84 Hayate, an Arii J2M3 Raiden, and a Hasegawa A6M3 Model 22 Zero, all in 1/48.
The Hasegawa Zero was a breeze to build, but those Arii kits (ex-Otaki) certainly taxed my building skills. The canopies! My goodness, the canopies! Thick and fuzzy, with no inclination to fit whatsoever. Had a blast with 'em though! And both Arii kits were STILL cheaper than the Hasegawa Zero!
I don’t recall what colors I used, but It’s all rattle cans and brushes. Testors Model Master, I think. Some kind of dark green on top, and light gray on the bottom. You can’t really tell in the pix, but the recessed panel lines were highlighted with a .3mm rapidomatic mechanical pencil. Looks better on the gray undersides.
The decals on both Arii kits were useless, so I replaced them with Superscale decals.

Here’s the pic:

Although I haven’t built any aircraft in 9 years (except for a Revell Hindenburg), I’ve sure been buying plenty of 'em, and plan to dive back into aircraft in the very near future.
So, I’d greatly appreciate some constructive criticism (don’t pull any punches! I can take it!) so I can step off on the right foot with my next aircraft build.
Which will be either Trumpeter’s 1/32 F4U-4 or Italeri’s 1/72 C-130H. Or Revell’s 1/48 Rafale M…
Hang on, I have Trumpeter’s MiG-3, too…
Decisions, decisions!

Anyhoo, I’d love to hear what you aviation experts think of a (primarily) treadhead’s Japanese trio!

UPDATE: Here’s a close up of each model:
Arii Hayate

Arii Raiden

Hasegawa Zero Model 22

Gotta love those Arii rivets!

Let’s not forget that Arii is really Otaki, though.
Gotta love those Otaki rivets!

But for the price, they ain’t bad at all. [:D]

I can see what you mean about the canopies, but besides that they look like winners to me! I wish I could make them look that good.

Nothing wrong there Brian. Yea, you can see the canopies short comings. Shame that their not close enough to replace w/ AM, huh?

Well, well, well, Brian. I have just nothing to say against those 3 beauties…! They just look gorgeous from over here. I just can’t wait to see what you come up with next. What I’d like you to do is… mmmm… a French aircraft, blue-grey in color, like the one that’s eyeing me from the shelves up here…

they look fantastic to me. i do love looking at pics of other builds.

Hey J-hulk I think Squadron still makes the Vac-formed canopies for the old Otaki & Arii kits, but besides the problems they look great I wish Mine would come out that nice,

Very nice J-Hulk. Thanks for posting the picture.

Really nice J Hulk. Especially since you used rattle cans. It’s nice to hear the some people still get a great result from old school techniques.

Keep up the great work

They’re gorgeous, Brian. I’ve got a 1/48 zeke to do. I might have to hit you up for advice when I get to it.

Thanks for the kind words, folks!
I reckon they’re not too bad for models I built 9 years ago, back in my “lazy hack” days!

Ah, yes Domi…it’s right behind me, on the shelf…RAFALE!!

They look just fine to me, Brian.
Glad to hear you are coming over from the “Darkside”!!!

Randie

J-Hulk transcends light and dark!

They look great, Brian ! Nice, subtle weathering.
I do have a question, though. Were you to build them today, with your armor experience, would you be tempted to bang 'em up & add dirt?

Looking forward to seeing more. And have fun with your new toy !

I think they look great!!!

Can’t wait to see more!!

they look great. you guys all do such great work .Jason

Thanks for the pictures, Brian!

That’s the wonderful thing about a good build; regardless HOW old they are, they still are breathtaking to look at!

Thumbs up!
Frank

Beautiful builds , Brian!

Your paint jobs are excellent…

Regards, Dan

Wow, incredible job. Wait aminute I’m talking about J-Hulk, well it’s natural for him![:D]

But NOT Testors Contour Putty! It is his one weakness!
Weilds the Contour Putty
Where are your fantasmical model powers NOW, J-Hulk?
With you out of the way, I shall RULE THE WOLRD! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
More SuperVillain laughter

That aside, they’re very nice! If only I had skills like that…

Yes, every Hero (and villian) has his weekness. And we know his.
