Unsecured Site?

When I go on my Apple small tablet to log into FSM, I get a “Unsecure Site” message in red letters on top of the page. Why is this happening?

In short, it’s 'cuz our FSM is not a secure site, Ernie.

If you look up at the URL address bar, you see either HTTP or HTTPS at the beginning. HTTPS site are secure and HTTP are not. FSM isn’t.

As I understand, ‘secure’ basically means encrypted. Since we are not entering sensitve information like credit card numbers here, one could argue it doesn’t really matter.

I’m about as paranoid as it gets when it comes to the internet, and it doesn’t much bother me that this site is insecure.

Hope that helps, and to those of you who are experts at this, I hope I explained it right.

Well that makes sense Greg. Din’t know about the HTTPS thing so thanks! I’m also EXTRA paranoid when it comes to internet things.

I’m happy it isn’t just me, my friend.

And this is why LittleTimmy can’t get onto the site. His PC won’t allow him to access an unsecured site. This leaves me uneasy as well. Will hackers be able to apply viruses to the site? I don’t know. I will have to ask my IT manager about this.

Excellent point! Please post what your IT guy says.

How about it FSM?

The encryption (SSL or TLS) is in the communication between the client (your browser) and host (FSM servers).

The site’s firewall and AV software is responsible for protecting from virus/malware.

Two seperate but related issues.

Good info, thanks.

Well…

It took me a MONTH, but I can Log -In Again.

Had to do some “Amature” re-programming on my end, AND I had to shut down my Anti-Virus software.

TO Kalambach : Your Go-Daddy root certificate may be fine for those who have “Newer” computer’s … but for those of us who type on “Antique’s”, this “Un-Secure” site is a H U G E pain in the ( explitive deleted )

I realize that it’s just me/my computer being like a Model T, That won’t run on 100 Octane gas, so I cant really be mad at you. It’s just frustrating /Maddening.

Because FSM is insecure, firefox won’t save my login details. So now I gave to type in my email address and password each time I wish to visit. This impasse does not invite, but hesitates, my wanting to visit forum.

Thank you for the screenshots. I know that IS is already aware of the issue, but I’ll pass these along to them.

peter, i am also useing Firefox at home but i don’t have the same issue, it does save my password so i don’t have to log in.

Peter,

If I’m not mistaken, click on the Advance button next to the Go Back button, it will give you an option to make an exception for the FSM url cs.finescale.com.

I think you meant, “unsecured”. I’d bet Finescale is fairly confident and proud of its product [;)]

Thanks fellow modellers for info and pint out my Freudian slip . . . or was it
