Unimpressed with the RX-93 ver.ka

Currently building the MG ver. ka RX-93. By far my favorite gundam model, but I will say I am so far unimpressed with this kit. The tolerances are too fine. The psycho frame is a cool gimmick but definitely adds to the frailty of the overall build.

First time I’ve heard of tolerances being ‘too fine’ on a model. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Haha I’m talking about the way the arms fit into the shoulders more than anything. It’s very flush and true but the shoulders tend to fall off the arm after it’s connected to the body because it sits just ever so on the attachment.

I will sometimes adjust overly tight parts by sanding down and slightly widening openings so that they don’t scrape paint when the part is moved. I think the Psycho Frame gimmick is a case of gilding the lily and do not care for such features.

But that Nu Gundam with the ver.Ka aesthetic has so much wow factor.

I built the normal MG of this kit years ago and was pretty unimpressed. Wait until you try to stand it up with the funnels on.

Oh yeah I was not even going to attempt that lol. I’ll be getting a stand, posing it, and never touching it again. My general experience with MGs is that they are not to be touched after being assembled :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Okay update on the build. Completed the gundam dry build today. Feeling like I’m finally a 3rd of the way there. Other than the way the shoulder “fit” to the arms (again, the fit is too true/flush to the arm connector imo, pic in initial post), I’ve grown to really like this kit.

The large amount of dark blue pieces leaves a ton of sanding to done with each piece but I am enjoying it. Will keep posting here along the way.

Progress update. Gonna call it finished with the legs. Had I had more foresight, I would have painted the tubing in the back of the legs Gundam red and done some metallic at the joints. Still could but I’m a serial couldn’t leave well-enough alone type.

A lot of people don’t love the psycho frame gimmick - I am not one of those people. I love it and fully intend to have the final pose showing off everything this kit can do - aside from the LED for the eyes. I have one I can install but I opted for the solid eyes on this one.

Looks like you are getting into the groove with this kit. You have a nice set of legs there,.
