What type of glue does not melt the plastic or paint. I would like to glue clear headlights on that are painted silver behind.
Superglue (though that will fog your clear parts) or epoxy will work but I think you want clear parts glue. For very small clear parts, you might use Future floor polish or Mod Podge.
UV glue does not melt plastic.
I use mod podge Amazon.com - Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Waterbased Sealer, Glue and Finish (8-Ounce), CS15059 Gloss, 8 Ounce ( Amazon link) for “ glass” parts. Always works for me, it’s cheap and the container will likely outlast you.
My go to for gluing clear parts like that is plain, old, Elmers white glue. The same stuff we all used to play with (or even eat) in grade school. It dries clear, can be cleaned up with water and best of all, you can find it everywhere. Walmart or the dollar store are probably the cheapest places to get it, and one small bottle lasts forever.
If you need something with more strength, then I suggest this stuff.
It dries clear, is somewhat flexible, glues almost anything. It is thicker than white glue and stringy when applying, but I’ve used it on everything from broken dishes to kids toys to winter boots. Again, can be found a lot of places, but is more expensive than white glue and is probably overkill for what you are looking to do with it.
PVA (PolyVinyl Acrylate) glue (white school glue) is the best for clear parts. You can also use it to seal up gaps by applying it with a toothpick.
Yup, it is expensive PVA glue in a Revell bottle.
I second Elmer’s. That’s what I use for clear parts.
PVA (white glue) is good where you can’t see it because it cures opaque dull. Like a dull coat. The best for clear parts is Micro Kristal Clear, Pacer Canopy Glue, and Mod Podge Gloss.
I was coming here to say, micro crystal clear, it works great.
I use Clear Gorilla glue to make lenses but it could also be used to glue lenses in place. Downside is that it takes, at least, 2 hours to dry.
I’ve used Jewler’s Glue to cement clear parts. It dries crystal clear and the applicator has a fine point for getting into tight spaces. You can find it at Walmart and Hobby Lobby too.
Amazon.com: Jewelry Displays & Boxes G-S Hypo Cement (3 Pack) : Arts, Crafts & Sewing
I do find it interesting that pretty much all of us use something different.
I just remembered that I also have just used Future to attach lenses and other small, clear parts. Dries very clear. ![]()
Or is most of it the same thing in different labeled packages? ![]()
I know at least 3 of the mentioned products are basically the same.
So I have a product from Ammo by mig called Ultra Glue. It essentially convenient overpriced elmers glue. I would get either or if you have a michaels or hobby lobby (if youre in the states) then woodland scenics sells canopy glue thats the same thing. They will dry clear which is nice if you mess up. Only downside to the elmers is it is slightly glossy where as the over priced versions have matt versions.
