Tuskeegee P-51

Anyone know where i can get an accurate paint scheme for a P-51 Mustang, with the markings used by the Tuskeegee Airman?

Aeromaster decals has at least one sheet dedicated to the Tuskeegee Airman. There are full color profiles and decals for each variant of the Mustang the unit operated.

Flyboy,
There’s several websites devoted to The Tuskeegee Airmen - most of them are histories and the like - I could find very few photos of their combat aircraft.
Have a look through this page - there are many links to websites that might help.

Good luck.

Lee… I’ll surely be checking these links out. Thank you. Just a little trivia on the Tuskegee airmen… after WWII they were stationed at Lockborne Airfield which is now Rickenbacker International Airport. It is about a minute down the road from me… the Ohio ANG still has a refueling wing there. I’m not sure if they have any museum or anything like that there… they recently did a lot of building and such so they may. Just thought some of you might find that interesting.

do you mean when they had the red tails or before???

I found this one for Eaglestrike decals. The last aircraft on the page is a red tail.

You can add these to your list!

Decals: Three Guys, (TGR48017), Tally-Ho (THD48016/19), Aeromaster, AM48224, (Archer, Toppins & Hutchins), AMT48-102, Monogram (MG881003), AMT 48-102, (Bailey’s, “Josephine”).

Here are some pics of a build I finished a few months ago. Decals & marking reference came from Aeromaster. Hope it helps some.

The Osprey book on Mustang Aces of the 15th AF also has 5-6 profiles of Tuskegee Stangs…

didfal-- where can you get those decals? I am particularly intrested in Archer’s. Thanks…

AM48224, (Archer, Toppins & Hutchins). These are AMT decals; I got my info from Squadron and Great Models. Seems as though AM decals are either OOP or being revised. My research shows that the only a/c that had nose art of the 332nd were P-39Q’s, P-51B/C/D. P-47’s were the first 'red tails" as problably they were left over from the 79th FG. The ‘Red Tail’ didn’t become the signature of the 332nd until all the squadrons were furnished with the P-51’s. Even though the “D” is most associated with the 332nd, they didn’t start receiving the “D” until Feb of '45. Primary a/c was the B/C 51.[2c]

That’s what I thought [:(] Looked for those and they definitely seem to be OOP…

The Tuskegee 47’s were inherited from the 325th Checkertails group… nothing on the markings was changed other than the checktail being painted over in red…they didn’t have them long enough to do much else to the markings before they were issued Mustangs.

Only decal refs for Nose Art for the 332nd I have for P-39Q is “Quanto Costa”, Lt. S. Curtiss (100th), Italy, '44.
P-40L, “Ace of Pearls”, Lt. H. Lawson (99th), Italy, '43.
P-47c & P-51C, “Alice Jo”, Capt. W. Pruitt, (302nd), Italy, '44.
P-51C, “Miss-Pelt”, Capt. “Lucky” Lester, 100th).

Blast!! Nothing on ebay for the Aeromaster set AM48224… and no other site even has them listed.

The reference you listed above for AMT 48-102, (Bailey’s, “Josephine”) represents markings for a P-4 as well-- I found of pic of his P-40 on the web yesterday if you’d like me to send it over.

Now when you mention your decal refs, are you just talking about those models?? There are tons for 51B’s and C’s…

Also-- you mention Pruitt’s P-47C Alice Jo…do you mean there is actually decals available for this bird?? I have looked everywhere for pics of Tuskegee Jug markings and have only come up with text descriptions… if there are decals available for the Jug, I’d love to get my hands on them…as well as the set for Archer’s Stang…I already have Quanto Costa done…and Ace of Pearls on the dockett…

Here be Josephine:

Now where’s Napolean [;)]

Pruitt flew both a/c and so named them. I was refering to T/A decals only. The 'Ace of Pearls" is on the decal sheet for AM’s P-40L (AA489202), with box art and new resin nose.[2c]

I will try SMITHMARK . I got pics of a P51 whit CHIEF= S/Sgt W.H. Conkey. ASST - Sgt W.H. Kohlhas. And ARM’R - Sgt J.O. Bleidner.
