Haha, well I’m not alone I see. I thought the Revell kit looked okay. I’m not too sure of the vinyl tires in the Trumpeter kit. They have nice detail and all. Perhaps one of the modern experts can point out any lows on the Revell kit for us. Sorry, not trying to highjack your thread Jason.
Hehe…I have the esci one…had it for a long, long time, and like the review says, its crap. I do find it interesting the decals have M10431 which is the designator for 4th LAR Bn and 521608 was a pig I knew very well in B Co 4th LAR.
Was looking through my old records and couldnt find 608 on my accounts, I had 609, which is just as well, it would have made the unit designator M14031 incorrect as I had M14033. But seeing how the vehicles are constantly swapped amongst the battalions, it could have been in the Bn Hq of 4th at one time or another or with me for that fact, I just dont have the records dated far enough back. In addition, I cant remember a battalion supporting SFOR (would have been 2nd if anybody) and painting the vehicles white. Possibly another country?
I know the Italeri/RG tires and/or wheel hubs have some serious issue with them. I can’t remember what it was though I was thinking either the tread pattern or the hub was wrong, but I may be way off base.
Revell is a rebox of the Italeri kit. Some of its problems include:
Tires/wheels - too small/narrow, bad/incorrect hub detail, wrong tread pattern.
Turret - hatches lined-up incorrectly, they were even, should have been offset as in Trumpeter’s. Turret was too close to centerline of vehicle. Trumpeter’s looks to have correct offset to left side.
Hull - wrong angles on front of hull, troop area roof was flat, Trumpeter has correct pitched roof.
Drive train - Italeri’s is much simplified with flat bottom and axles coming out of nowhere. Wasn’t offset for rear torsion bar suspension as Trumpeter’s is correctly portrayed either.
General level of detail and crispness was weak as well. Trumpeter’s is just an overall much better model kit.
Thanks for the link. I’m glad I passed up the opportunity to buy AM parts for the RoG kit a few months ago. This is going on the must have list. Zok, I agree with you…Where is my MAZ transporter and I’ll throw in the SA-6.
Canada would be a good bet, but I don’t know enough about the differences between the canadian version and the USMC version to say one way or another.
I also took a look at the other Trumpeter reviews. I think I need to get me one of those KV-2’s. It will go nicely with the KV-1 Simplified Turret I picked up last week.
