Trumpeter LAV-25 Finished! Pics!

Well, mostly finished, anyway. This was my entry into the Modern Armor GB (same pics so if you’ve seen it over there, you’ve seen it already!). I ordered both a machine gun and general stowage set to go on this guy…they’re currently listed as “available”. [:-^] Hopefully I can pull myself off of one of the many other builds I’ve got in line to really finish this thing if/when they show up. We can only hope! [;)]

Only addition was the Lion Roar PE set. Real good one, used about 90% of it…was supplied 3 brass rods and told to “just bend to shape” to replace the rear turret rack. Heh. Kept the kit part on that one + the PE mesh. The equipment straps are pretty cool, lot of work, and I imagine actually getting them around your stowage could be a bit tricky. Sadly the contact points are VERY small for those straps and results in a good bit of replacement as I knocked them off…repeatedly.

Anyhoo:

Enjoy! Hopefully! [:D]

Sweet. Exactly what one needs on 635, Fri afternoon…

I was going to start that same kit this weekend because my PE for my Stryker seemed to be lost in space, but it showed up yesterday morning. So it’s back to the Stryker on the GB. Anyway you did a beautifull job. Nice paint job by the way! Very nice to say the least. One small question, and I’ll get off here. Did you use the tires out of the kit?

gary

Hey, thanks for looking guys! [:D]

Yeah, those are the kit-supplied tires. Look pretty good, watch out when you’re putting them on though, the fit was kind of tight, I ended up snapping (!) one of the axles installing the rubber. [:O]

Very nice build! I realy like the cargo tie down straps! One question though- is the gun barrel supposed to be painted or left gun metal?

Hi Dupes. Nice LAV. That camo is a lot harder to pull off than it looks. I should know. I helped my son build the Revell kit. I think I’ll stick to old school. LOL How was the build? Please tell me you’ll be coming back to WW II. LOL Again.

heya dupes[:)]- real nice looking job man! camo looks just great-- I wish the pics were a little brighter- It would show off the your workmanship a little better[:)]----tread[8D]

Now that is nice!

I think ACE does one in 1:72…hmmm…Any one know how good it is as the ADF use a version for their main AFV.

cheers

Mike

Looks great to me, too. Especially the tires, PE tie downs, and muffler/exhaust/whatever the PE thing with holes is on the right side. The splattered dried mud is very convincing as well.

hi again, dupes[:)]-- after checking your pics out in this thread, I just had to go over and check out your work ‘in progress’ over at the modern armor GB-- I now appreciate it to a much higher degree[tup][tup]–man that is some nice p.e. work! – thise 'tie downs. really look to have been a pain in the butt, but the end results are very pleasing and well done-- nice job dude------tread[8D]

Hey dupes,

Very nice build indeed my friend… Over all construction is well done except maybe the weathering needs to be a lil more… Then again that is my opinion…

I have this same kit awaiting in the wings to be built… However, not too sure on which scheme I want… Nato or Dessert… I probably wont know until I start doing some research…

Again good build and thanks fer sharing

Flaps up,

Mike

All the 25s on LAVs and Bradleys I have seen are not painted but remain gun metal.

Wow, thanks to everyone who took the time to reply! [:D]

Let me try to answer some individual questions…

Tigerman - the build was great. If I had done this w/out the PE, I think construction could have been done in a couple of days. Went together just about flawlessly…filled one small gap in the rear, but that was it…I’ve made my bi-annual foray into the “modern” world, rest assured I’ll be coming back to the WWII arena ASAP! [;)]

Treadwell - you know, I finally got around to making that “light box” that WBill posted a couple of weeks ago thinking that my pics would be vastly improved (read - BRIGHTER) but they really aren’t. Which isn’t the fault of the box. To the naked eye, when I throw a model in there, it looks really well lit from all sides…then the pictures come out dark. I’m investigating now whether there’s some issue with my camera - maybe some settings I can fool around with? Thanks about the PE, btw! [:I]

Butz - I don’t think I could weather it any more. Heh. Threw just about everything I know how to throw at it! The ref pic I was using really showed a considerable amount of dust/mud on the bottom half, while the top of the LAV seemed much less beaten up. Maybe next time.

Stikpusher - well, the instructions showed the barrel being painted (for whatever that’s worth - heh), as did the reference pics I saw…although I only had a few. I would certainly defer to anyone who has some real-world experience on the LAV. [%-)]

Thanks again guys! [:D]

Hey dupes,

Thank you for your reply. Ah I see… Overall build is great and the way it looks is just as great… No knocks thatsfer sure

Just for some reason or other that thing is just screamin I wanna play in the mud… Laughs MMMmmm the LAV-25 that I have mayend up on the bench sooner than later…

Thanks again…

Nice…Very Nice. [tup]

I love the mud and mud splatters (any good Marine would love a good mud splatter) [swg]

I have the Italeri version of mortar carrier on the shelf. Between this and what is in the Modern GB, it will be good to go to for ideas.

Rounds Complete!!

I like it. Looks good. I like the weathering. The weathering looks just like I remember from my days in Corps and being around the LAV’s. I do have a couple of comments though:

  • The barrel on the 25mm I believe should be left a natural metal
  • The side view mirrors are rarely used, maybe only when driving down the highway. They break off too easily in the field and Marines are always breaking things (“Hey Gunny, is that Marine-Proof?”).
  • The straps are rarely left hanging like that. They’re normally tied back. Then again, it all depends on how you want to display it.
  • Are you going to put a machine gun on the mount? For that mount, the most appropiate gun is the M60e3 used from the lat '80s to early '90s before switching to the M240G

Keep up the good work,

Jesse

Hey, thanks again guys!

Apparently the bare-metal barrel thing is confirmed. Hmmm…I’ll have to investigate the possibility of changing that.

The side mirrors were part of the PE kit…maybe Trumpeter knew too well that those weren’t too common, or “marine-proof”. Heheh. [:D]

The straps are like that just to give me the option of adding the stowage set…should it ever arrive. Not sure how feasible that’s going to be with those weak attachment points, but we shall see.

There definitely WILL be an MG up there, have the DML modern machine guns set on the way…it’s wherever the stowage set is. [;)]

I know nothing of modern armour dupes but i do know what i like and this one looks cool man, great job on the camo and details and the weathering blends it all just right, very nice job.
