Trumpeter 1/48 Wyvern S.4.. (Pics)

I have this kit on my shelf. I’m going to do a racing style|theme build of it. Yours look so authentic If you take pictures of it on tarmack you wouldn’t be able to distinguish it as a model. Excellent Job. Truly Impressive.

What did you do to get the wings down as i want to position them that way too…

Great job on it Rick, I like the looks of that plane.

Thanks for looking Guys & for the comments. Much appreciated.

Jerry … Sorry we didn’t make the Forum connection during our chat. I have great respect for your work as well. Just to jog your memory, I took a First Place in 1/72 Jet with a Tamiya F4D-1 Skyray, a Second in 1/72 prop with a Hasegawa P-51D Mustang & a Second in 1/48 single engine prop, Axis, with a heavily weathered Hasegawa Grace. How about you ? Must have taken some Hardware home [:)].

Regards, Rick

Kinda stinks that Trumpeter doesn’t give you the option of building the kit with the wings extended, and forces you to hack 'em. Hm.

PB

In fairness to Trumpeter, they do give you the option of building the wings extended, as I chose to do. Problem with this, or most any other kit that offers the option, is that the fit is marginal when you join the wing sections rather than folding. It can be done, but requires a lot of TLC. The Wyven is further complicated by the fact that it has folding wing tips as well & the fit of the tips in the extended position was not great.

All in all, it was a great weekend. My Tamiya Phantom took 1st in 32nd jets plus the Jerry Cochrac Memorial Award for best F4. My Do335 got a 2nd, and my “Ooooh Shiney” Mustang won 3rd in OOTB.

Cheers…Jerry

Congrats Jerry, that’s an excellent showing [tup]. I thought that Mustang looked familiar [8D].

I was looking at name tags too. Must have let my guard down at the wrong time. Next time we’ll have to get a meeting place. I left early on sat and did know untill last night that my fw190A-8 “snake” too first in 1/32 single engine prop aircraft. The other one entered did not place. Swanny was there too and I missed him as well.

Congrats on the Award Stan [tup]. The 190 was most deserving of the First Place award. I checked it out several times, as I may build the Eduard 1/48 kit in those markings.

Regards, Rick

Jerry, Stan, Rick and Swanny all at one show…one the one hand, the honor of meeting these gentlemen would have been worth the drive from Cincinnati, but boy am I glad I didn’t have to compete with them!!!

Sounds like a great show…any chance of you guys coming down to the cincy show in September?

Rick - Really nice work - VERY pretty !

One question though - Or I guess Two…

Is that a camera on the port side ? and Were these mostly photo recon birds ?

Chris

mucker… I think the Cinnci show is in October. I’m planning on being at the AIR Zoo model show in Kalamazoo, Mi in September. Not sure about the October shows, but I’m leaning towards the Dayton, Ohio Show. Too far away to really plan right now.

Chris, Thanks Guy, glad you like her. That is a camera opening on the Port side & there is also one on the Starboard side. The Starboard opening was painted over on the prototype & on the model. I think the Wyvern was intended as a multi-strike weapon more than a photo recon role. It could also be equipped with a torpedo & bombs rather than the center line drop tank & rockets shown on the model. It began development in 1946 & entered service in 1953. It really only saw action during the Suez crisis & was retired from service in 1958.

Regards, Rick

Dayton is not that far for me…let me know if you’re going when the time comes. Depending on the date, I hope to make it there, myself.

Will do [:)].

Regards, Rick

Very nice job, Rick. Really nailed that one. You got skills fella.

…Guy

if anyone is looking to purchase this exact kit I have one for sale. and i’ll give you a good price.

I’m interested.

Good looking Wyvern, Rick. Where do you get the tubing for your drilled-out cannons?

Thanks Guys, appreciate your comments.

Steven… The tubing I used was 1/32x.006 brass tubing from a Company called Special Shapes. I bought it at the LHS.
