This is the very recent release from Trumpeter. I applaud the subject matter, something different for sure and the only other 1/48 Barracuda was from Special Hobby and I don’t know if it’s still around. The big let down of this kit is ejection pin marks, they are everywhere, inside landing gear bays, fuselage, dive brakes, bottom side of exhausts, etc.etc. basically I think they wanted to see how many they could get in places that can be seen! other than that, I love the final look of this build.
Great looking build @Grant_Dalzell ! How was the wing fold fit?
Thank you for sharing!
This is gorgeous! Builds like this conjure a deep desire to give some WWII aviation another crack after a quarter-century hiatus…
I’m currently building a Trumpeter kit that was tooled in 2007, but have been frustrated by fat part-sprue connections, brittle plastic and what I can only describe as layering that one might expect from 3D printing. Being a recent release, how have you found working with their current plastics (ejection pin marks aside)?
No problems at all, it’s currently only glued at the horizontal stabilizer mount, the wing root area is just sitting there.
The kit is really good other than ejection pin marks, I’m a big fan of Trumpeter and Hobby Boss, they do great subject matter, they were a bit lazy with the design of this kit, they could have done better with the location of ejection pins.
Great job on such an ugly aircraft!
I have no love for Trumpeter after building their Gato submarine. Hope their aircraft are better! IMO.

@Grant_Dalzell I literally just received this kit from Squadron in the last week or so, and here you are with an already completed one. Wow. Excellent work. I built the Special Hobby version several years ago, and even though it’s not the prettiest airplane, I found myself wanting to build another one but one that wouldn’t fight me tooth and nail. Although it’s disappointing to hear about all the ejection pin marks.
Thar’s a beautiful build of a really ugly airplane (aeroplane)! I like!
I am a fan of the Barracuda, and seeing your build up is pushing me to get the kit. But my inner logic is hitting me repeatedly with an old soup ladle saying, “Wait for Airfix to do the kit!!!”
I really doubt Airfix will do this kit, they have even less motivation now, Trumpeter has released it, even if it has issues.
