Trumpeter 1/350 Jeremiah O’brien

Got the Trumpeter kit inbound. 1st ship in a very long time.
But after looking at the instructions online I notice there are no rigging instructions. Does a set exist?

I have looked for those for my build and other than loads of pictures there is nothing really definitive that I could find.
I do have this link to a build that shows what they did which looks very close if not exactly what the real pictures look like.

Yes, but for your trained spider. Not for mere mortals

See pages 98 & 99 of the Navy Seamanship Manual for boom rigging diagram

One set needed for each boom & mast

OH MY!
As handy as this is I think I will stick to the more basic rigging I have seen done. I just don’t think I am built to pull that off in 1/350.

This helps a lot. I live just north of SF and I guess I could visit her and take lots of pictures but don’t want to dive in that deep.

I visited a couple of years ago and that was what triggered me to start building it.
It is a sight to see.

It’s also fun to see the deisel submarine Pompanito (SS-383) moored next to the O’Brien.

She was the Stingray in the movie Down Periscope.

Awesome ships on display! We have the submarine USS Cobia at the Manitowoc Maritime Museum. You’re allowed to go on board for tours and I’ve heard that some Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops even spend the night on board her.

I’ve been aboard the Pompanito - pretty tight quarters in there!
Love Down Periscope - didn’t know that was the Pompanito. Thanks for that bit of trivia.

EDIT: bumped in to this showing the models from the movie

The kit just showed up. Looks ok.
Per the kit description on Amazon, it should have included photo etch parts but none were included.

Can anyone answer whether or not it should be included. It’s not a show stopper but I just want to get an answer.

If it’s not included, then I’ll make it straight from the box.

Thanks!

A copy of the instruction sheet on ScaleMates and photos of the included parts does not show a photoetch fret. My cloudy memory likewise does not show one.

Thanks
That’s what I figured. I probably should build without PE since it’s my first ship in 25 or so years.

I have two of these and neither has etch. There is a set available but it is extensive and for the diehard.

Thanks

Guess I will stick to out of the box. Figure I should experience ship building before really digging in.

It is a very good choice for a first ship build. Loads of room to work and nice parts OOB. Rigging the cranes is the big thing but you get the hang of it pretty quick. I recommend EZ line for that as it is easy to work with and the elasticity of it help prevent disasters.

Tcoat posted a link to just the rigging I needed. I’ll order some EZ Line today.
