Trumpeter 1/32nd BAC Lightning build

Ian, looking stunning.

Keep those pics coming.

Karl

Ian, your work never ceases to astound me. Your attention to detail is just sublime. Awesome my friend.

…Guy

Thanks guys for the coments heres an bit of an update…

Spent most of the day applying a wash to the model and making a rear exhaust guard.

Many of you will know what a wash is ! But there are many still out there that don’t understand what a wash is ! Its a water based product which is applied by brush all over the model, left to dry then rubbed off with a damp paper towel, it will give it a more real look to aircraft, infact it can go on any sort of model, you can make it yourself but i find the best is ‘Promodellers’ weather wash.

Have a look… http://www.promodeller.com/

Model panel detail showing hardly any detail at all.

Applying the wash, this can be put on in several coats to get the desired effect.

Panel work high lighted by the wash, this will go darker when a coat of Klear/future is applied.

Applying the wash to the seperate parts, easier this way than being on the model as you could break it while your rubbing the wash off.

Removing the wash with a damp [not wet] paper towel.

The results you get using this stuff.

Taken the Masking tape off and that was a success too all nice and neat, not bad to say its brush painted on, i’m going to add a little detail inside the canopy eg’ rear view mirror, wires etc etc.

Checking the fit of the canopy parts and align up nicely.

Masked up the nose for the ‘anti dazzle’ black part, i’ve masked the section which is on the nose ring like that because i’ve got an actual colour photo of a firebird in flight from above [bow]

Please remember that i don’t do much airbrushing !, too much hassle in cleaning the things, end result look good any way !!

Finally got round to finishing the Main under carriage.

Correct positioning of the strut covers, i’ve known people in the past glue the small piece onto the underside of the wing, which is wrong.

I noticed today that Trumpeter have even forgot to put a groove into the model where the rear wings go to allow wing movement, i didn’t dig it out so is just painted in a black curved line to replicate this.

Wing tip lights fitted in nicely.

Started to make a rear exhaust shield, very fiddly.

thanks for looking

More stunning work Ian! I am still amazed by the results you acheive by hand-brushing- incredible! I use the Pro-Modeleer washes too, love them in fact. I now use them for almost everything. Keep these updates coming, awe-inspiring stuff. [bow]

Ian - that is Fantastic ! I keep hearing about how Easy and Great Pro~modeller wash works. But I had not seen it done yet . Bravo for doing so well [tup] Now to go find some of thatwash and place an order, but of course you cant just order wash… A couple of kits, decals, got to get the most for your Postage dollar.

I see that Trump is still putting ejector marks all over the landing gear still. Here is what the legs of the Trump Corsair looked like

Struts[tdn]

Ha HA I thought your exhaUST cover. was a contact lens case at first! Great part about the Model master wash. Been meaning to try it to see what all the noise is about! Really like how that canopy framing turned out. Looks good and sharp! Gonna try some that way myself.

[bow]

Stunning stuuf. The promodeller stuff is all i use and its great. Really works well on your NMF. Takes it to another level.

The rate your going, im expecting finished pics tomorrow.

…Guy

I know what you mean even their wellington is the same, why on earth do they do it ? Tamiya don’t.

ian.

Well guys i reckon in about two days time this baby will be finished and yet again another model gone to the history books ! eh !!

Just about finished putting all the decals on, just a few small black ‘walkway’ lines to put on the wings this i will do when the wings are on, also put on the rear wings and airbrakes and missile rails.

Beginning to look like a cover now [:o)]

Brass rod added for the rails.

Not a bad bit of scratchy building there if i don’t say so myself.

I’ve attached the two parts which hold the wheel cover now, in the instructions it tells you to do it with the front leg glued into the fuselage doing it this way would be very akward indeed.

All front undercarriage is on and FIRMLY glued in well.

Everything looking level, i did cock up at first i put the tail planes on the wrong side and made them point down wards i had to rip them off then and re-paint a silver part where the wings go on.

Cleaned alot of the wash out as it looked just too dirty and being a show bird i don’t think it would be that mucky.

Fin flash altered as in the box art and as in real photo’s, Trumpy supplied new decals to rectifie some of their mistakes but not all on them, the fin flash has a white border around the fin flash and trumpy didn’t alter this, so i cut up the old fin flash into fine white lines then stuck them around the f/flash, not bad eh !.

As you can see the secrets out ! this bird is not as the box art but as XM177 G

Most of the walkway decals are on, i’ll tell you something ! Trumpeter decals are very good quality and contour to all angles with no silvering at all, Red looks a different colour to the other parts this is due to the light conditions.

thanks for looking.

Ian - Wow what a Great job you have done to make this kit turn out so Fantastic. I am so looking forward to seeing it completed. (and I’m a Prop Type Only Aircraft Fan) Is that the “Promodeler” wash on the front strut also ? [tup] [tup]

Is that a U.K. thing to call greasy-grime …uh… “wash”?

…uh.

I think I discovered that “sludge treatment” = “wash”…

Superb job. Will that tailpipe cover be removable?

I’m normally a Prop man myself ! but theres something about F1a’s and F6’s i love [;)]

All the undercarriage are painted alloy silver with my own mix of clear satin with a hint of black to it, to give it that mucky look you see on old aircraft,

LOL [^] [;)]

Its just like ‘Future’ !! In the UK i searched for 3 years to find the stuff ! then i found out over hear its called ‘Klear’, Why have two different words [banghead]

Yes the cover/s are removable.

Been on a mission today and i’ve got the wings on all the undercarriage is on, both missiles fitted just need a bit more work on the canopy a few more wing decals and it will be done so i reckon this time tomorrow it willl be done.

This is how it looked one hour ago.

Wow Ian that is really something to behold! [bow][bow][bow]

You got anything else planned in the near future? Er uh Near Klear?

LOL, i’m staying Klear of my next build as theres no Future in it [:o)]

My back was hurting me for two days Aaron so i’ve only done a bit, here a few more pictures for thee…

Finished off the FOD guards and gun port covers, also been making a rear view mirror for the canopy as the canopy has no detail at all.

I’ve also been altering the canopy frame as trumpeters one is wrong.

FOD guards are scratch made and are removable.

Gun port covers.

The rear view mirror made up of three parts.

Starting to fill parts of the canopy with paint, when its dry i’ll sand it back smooth, i’ll be hand painting the yellow lines which are on the canopy the kits decals won’t fit anymore.

my back was hurting me so i had to put the thing down !! not be long now before its done.

thanks for looking.

Good Lord thats a big bird! And a good looking one at that! Cant wait to see it finished.
