Trumpeter 1/144 USS Seawolf

Hey, anyone know anything about that new 1/144 Seawolf that Trumpeter is coming out with in Mid Nov. Does anyone have any more info on this? This is soooo[:D] great! It is supposed to be a good kit, good overall construction, and good (reasonable) price.

well I say that 1/144 scale sounds like it will build up to a nice big kit bigger than Trumpeters 1/200 scale Sovremenney Destroyer which I do have.

It’s not in the shops yet.
I R/Ced the Kilo, so the seawolf is eagerly awaited…

It’s already out here in Japan, selling for 2,800 yen (about $26.60 USD). Pretty cheap for a fairly big kit!
Looks like a great kit in the box.

Can you perhaps post or e-mail pictures of the sprues
( I assume you have the kit) ?

That would enable me to check up (using more expert colleagues) on the
accuracy of the kit.

so how did you make the Kilo sea worthy and what type of system did you use to pump water in and out of the sub.

raalst- I don’t have it yet. It is not out in stores until the end of Nv. (It says on Tower Hobbies)
I’ll try to e-mail you some pics, or you can check modelling websites after the kit has hit the market. Some sites will have in-box reviews (www.steelnavy.com).

sorry for the delay.

mikey,
there is no water pumping done in the R/C kilo. It goes under by it’s
rudders and forward speed only.
This was all I could fit in the interior.
Even the motor is in the water to save space in the watertight part
(for the electronics).
I am planning on using a converted servo and a reservoir of a
hypodermic needle as a ballast tank in the seawolf.
(and all this rudely interrupted by moving house at the same time)

awan, thanks for the info.
I’ll keep scanning the net for the first signs of shipping in Europe.

Sorry for the late reply.
I don’t have the kit, but nosed around in the box at the LHS a couple of weeks ago.

I don’t know for sure but which Seawolf is this kit going to be?
SS 197, SSN 575, or SSN 21 ??? I do hope it’s SSN 21. I would like to attempt kitbashing a Long hull version ( Jimmy Carter SSN 23)… Easier to do in plastic then Resin and cheaper too…It would be nice to have a SSN 575 too.
I hope they get it right. Not like Dragon’s butchered 688 class boat in 1/350. Too many problems there to even bother with.

anybody read “seawolf” by patrick robinson ? im probably gonna build this kit when it comes to my shores.

It’s the SSN-21 version. If you’re a purist, my understanding is some of the detail is incorrect.

Do you know what details are incorrect? if its something minor, wrong periscopes, other antennas, that’s fine, if the entire kit doesn’t evven look like a Seawolf—BAD! Yeah I think the kit’s the SSN-21, it shouldn’t be too hard to kitbash it given the fact that the hull is hollow, to make cutting easier.

Reggiethedorj-----that’s a kick ****** book, I especially liked the part where Adm. Morgan was cursing in his office. (He was angry about why the American equipment couldn’t find the sailors.)

from Matt Thor- designer/vendor/builder of an awesome 1/96 scale SSN 21, from the SubCommittee board.
Posted today:
“Thanks to a friend in Japan I just received my SSN21. Not bad work with all things considered. Some of the scribing is incorrect, the wide apperature array is not correct in placement, shape, and size. The PJ shroud is too small and not long enough. The sail is too squat and missing lots of detail. The lower hull detail is not correct either. The taper on the stern is also incorrect. The complete set of stern appendages will need to be replaced. They are not correct or fuctional for R/C. It is obvious that this model was built off of the early NAVSEA prints from 1996 which reflect almost all of the detail the way this boat has been portrayed. This boat will be easily convertible to R/C though. It has a lot of room! For the money you cannot beat it!”
