This is Tie Breaker #2 of 3 for jeaton, intruder38 PontiacRich and Skybolt2003 ONLY.
This aircraft was a four-engine, all-metal prototype reconnaissance aircraft designed in the late 1940s. The aircraft was designed with maximum aerodynamic efficiency in mind. Although highly innovative, it was fated to compete against more modern technology and was not to enter production. The original proposal was for a reconnaissance aircraft, it included a requirement for speed (400 mph), ceiling (40,000 ft) and range (4,000 nm). Its primary objective was for high-speed overflights of the enemy. This aircraft’s first flight was made in
early 1946 when it met and exceeded the performance goals for which it had been designed. Only two were ever built, as it fell out of favor after hostilities ended in World War II. It set several records for it’s aircraft type that still stand. Neither prototype survives.
