First time going to India. I have been to the UK, Costa Rica, Mexico and Jakarta in the past. I’ll be visiting our offices in Hyderabad and Bangalore. Thursday we’re getting a tour of the Mysore Palace and perhaps the Bangalore Palace. What struck me in doing some preliminary reading is how recent these magnificent buildings are. Considering India’s long long history (2500BC) I would have thought that these buildings would have been ancient. Regardless, looking online these Palaces are nothing short of breathtaking. I’ll post up some pictures when I get back Friday.
Happy to take any advice from any of you globe trotters that have visited.
Have fun and post pictures when you come back. Safe travels.
Oh wow! That sounds awesome! Good luck and I too would love to see photos.
I went to India for three weeks back in 2006. Further North than you. Wonderful trip, a lot of color and history. There are plenty of ancient monuments to se as well as the more contemporary stuff.
The poverty is really crushing, be prepared for that.
Take lots of pictures. Oh, and this time of year it’s going to be murderously hot.
I’ll be in hotels and our offices most the time. But I am concerned about touring around Thursday. I brought shorts and a light shirt. The humidity looks pretty high.
Have a great visit, Keavdog. As GM said be aware of the poverty, it’s strikingly depressing to see. It also breeds thieves and pick pockets, avoid wearing a watch that you like, a phone camera is better than a SLR, but keep even that concealed as much as possible. Heat and humidity??? You bet!
Throw away breathing masks are advisable, so much airborn pollution can be a real irritant. Be safe, be well.

I had a crazy schedule visiting our offices in Hyderabad and Bangalore. As always, impressed with our colleagues in India - brilliant data scientists and engineers. On Thursday we had a chance to visit the Mysore Palace and a brief stop at the Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple which was built in 894 AD.
Here’s the temple - incredible detail, not sure how one would go about building/sculpting such a beautiful temple in 894. Amazing

The original Mysore palace burned down in 1896 and the new palace was built on the same grounds. Some of the structures survived such as the residential buildings which we toured as well. Here’s a few shots of the palace. Really breath taking in person.

Great trip. I’m inheriting a team in Hyderabad so I’ll be in India more often. Wonderful people and an amazing history and culture.
Man I am wrecked after this trip though! And now looking for figures from the time.
Beautiful architecture. Glad to see your home safe and tired
Ornate and intricate is an understatement. The architecture is simply awesome. Great pictures!
Wow nice. Thanks for sharing.
A lot of pople I know travel regularily to India for one reason or another. From here on the west coast, it’s a 24 hour trip.
It’s not uncommon to negotiate for two extra days of time paid. Otherwise as you know, it’s terribly hard.
Good news about work too.
Total trip door to door was 30 hours which includes leaving for the airport from Bangalore and the drive home in San Diego, but yes about 25 hours flight/connection time.
