I’ve had to abandon two plane kits - a Spitfire Mk.IX and a P-51D - because I misplace my clear parts. The Spitfire has basically just become my test-painting model, but the Mustang was really cool and I was going to make it for my girlfriend’s dad (a pilot) who loves P-51s. I even had custom decals to name it after his wife, downsized picture and all, and had his name next to the canopy frame and EVERYTHING!!
But my clear parts vanished and I’ve been without them for almost two weeks now.
Is there any way at all that I can get replacement clear parts - like a cockpit set or something, or even ask the manufacturer for help (seems unlikely to me) - or do I have to buy another identical kit?
It’s got me really bummed that I had to drop the Mustang project, especially because of its cause … Any help would be great guys!
Write or e-mail the manufacturer. They are generaly quite happy to send you replacement parts (some for a little fee).
In the future, place the parts in a little resealable bag and pin it safely somewhere where it will be safe…!
There may also be vacuum form replacements available. Check True Details on Squadrons web site.
Regards, Rick
Just for the record, what is the brand, scale and variant of the Mustang (I assume a B or D). You have been given some very good, very basic advice above. But, as the man said, if you lose a canopy, you can replace it with a vacuformed canopy at about $1.97 for two of them (in case you screw one up) ordered from Squadron mail order. Also, there are some very nice guys on this site willing to help a fellow modeler in need of a part.
BTW, welcome to the site,
Tom
It is a basic Mustang kit: Revell-Monogram 1/48 P-51D Mustang. Squadron you say? Definitely worth looking into … thanks guys! Seems like this can be handled now but of course any further advice and/or suggestions is always a good thing.

If its a Monogram kit you can go to there web site and order the piece of there website, for a small fee http://www.revell-monogram.com/home.html
I had to do this with thier 1/72 B-52 to get a replacement clear parts tree and instruction book. I week or two later and they were in the post.
If you can’t get one there, try putting an enquiry on www.hyperscale.com it sometimes turns up the most unusual odds and ends
The Squadron Canopies are great, but while you’re there, check into Falcon canopies. They’re more expensive, but you get canopies for 8 to 12 different aircraft. I believe it has two canopies for the Papa 51 Delta - the origional bubble canopy and the later Dallas bubble canopy with the higher aft end. It’s more expensive (somewhere around 14.98 I think) but is worth it.
