I am making a diorama that will feature Bayardi resin tree stumps. The diorama will be set at night in the fall. What color should they be primed? I thought light grey. What color should the base color be? I will weather with Vallejo sepia wash. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

A trick I use when I want to get the terrain and foliage right is to use Google or Bing maps on the computer. In Google maps I go to the area, let’s say Gallipoli Turkey, use the satellite option and look at the pictures people have taken of the area. You can see the dirt, grass and foliage. Or use Google images and search Gallipoli in the Fall. Also you can use Google translate and translate what you are looking for into the language of the country of mention and copy the translation into the search engine. That way you will get different photos than a search in English. Hope this makes sense. It’s a great research tool.
Or use street view in Google maps if the area is covered by the street view option. Most European countries have street views.
Can you offer any suggestions on priming,base color and general weathering?

Base coat should be the darkest color of the object. Then work your way out with lighter shades. That way if you miss a brush stroke it will still be a low light and not be noticeable. I suggest priming your trunks with a dark grey primer for the same reasons.
