Trainer GB 2014 #CLOSED#

I have been wondering if there is anyone who would like to join in on a GB dedicated to trainer fixed and rotor-wing aircraft.

01 Jan 2014 to 31 May 2014 (if it needs to extend we could do so)

“rules”

Any scale

started builds OK if less than 30%

WIP Pix please

Cross overs welcome

Having fum most important!

I am thinking of stuff like T-6, PT-17, Tiger Moth, PT-19, Cessna 150,Bell 47, Multi engine trainers like C-47. Basically anything that was or is being used at an basic or advanced trainer.

As this is my first time hosting I will need input WRT posting pix of compleded builds on main page and a badge aswell.

What say you, any interest??

Hi Theuns,

I’ll whip together an Airfix Chippy for this one.

Cheers

Tony

Like I said before, I like this idea. The GB book is getting full already for next year, but you know what?! Count me in! It will be a T-38. Not sure what scale or make yet (I have 3!). I’d lean towards 1/48, but Bish is lurking around here somewhere and I KNOW he will try that Jedi mind trick thing again! [;)]

So, yeah, T-38! Scale and make TBD. Thanks Theuns!

Whip it out Tony…whip it out!

Eagle, cool on the T-38, I have always loved the shape of that one.

Talking of Chippies, I did my first 7 odd hours flight training on an ex RAF Mk10 Chippie and the one thing I still recall clearly was the instructor telling me to “step on the ball!” Stupid as I was I looked on the floor to see what ball he was talking about, I don’t recall seeing one during the pre-flight!

Being a real “stick and rudder” trainer you need to boot in some rudder to have the turns co-ordinated LOL.

I’m in as well! I’d love to build a P-47G “Doublebolt” (twin-seated trainer Razorback). I’ll try to scratch-build her in 1/48 (no conversion sets available in that scale). Here’s a pic:

I’m in. I’ll be putting together an old 1/48 Monogram T-6 dressed as a Harvard Mk. IIb in Yugoslav Partisan markings.

Put me down for a Wolfpack T-38.

Cool beans! 2 Tallons and 2 Harvards on the roster.

I am very interested to see how the conversion on the Double bolt will go…you are allot braver than me LOL

Think I need to also add a 1/72 Chippy so that Tony doesn’t feel “out”

Theuns

Lads if you have any ideas for a badge PLEASE feel free to show it, I have no idea how to make one so it is up toy the clever guys !

Theuns

Maybe I just have a dark sense of humor, but I think something like this would be fitting.

Now that is bad training LOL!

In the interests of bumping this GB back to the front page, I’ve just completed a Chipmunk over on the Canadian GB. At least it’s a trainer. To my knowledge, Airfix have released decals for 4 different schemes for the Chipmunk. I thought it would be interesting to have a go at all of them, although I’m only promising one so far for this GB.

Cheers

Tony

i have a DO-335 2-seater i will be building for another GB. will that work here as well?

silly question - what exactly is a “crossover”?

Wayne, your Dornier is most welcome.

TL , the guys sometimes build the same model for different GB’s, and that is called a “crossover” from one GB to another  So what will you be entering then???! LOL

Theuns

Ill have to look into it. I do own a trainerer but… Unfortunately i commited it to a gb on another site. Still it gives me a reason to go shopping again

Why not just enter a quick “shake 'n bake” fast build to the GB. Doesn’t have to be super build standards, just fun

I will enter a small T-6 or DHC 1 for starters and see if I get to a more “involved” build a bit later.

Theuns

Sounds like a plan, i will have a look on evilbay. It woukd be a nice change to do a straight oob model.

That is what I intended with this GB, all out “super builds” for those who want to ,and pure fun for the others who want to.

Guys, don’t forget the civy type planes and helos used for training, like Cessna 150/172, Super Cubs, even Beech Bonanza’s ect.

Military planes not just “normal” trainers we usually think of, also stuff like C-47 used by some airforces for multi engige and advanced instrument training.
