TOS 1701 question

Just got the repop TOS 1701 in the metal box, Thanks Girlfiend!!

My question: After all my research (the heads spinning), I’m thinking of Canadian Voodoo Gray overall, depicting the series ship.

Thoughts???

-edit- Does this puppy have the aztec pattern? If so are masks available? I’ve been looking and cannot find anything definative. Funny I’m looking for references of a fictional ship [:D]

TOS Enterprise did not have the Aztec pattern on it. That first appeared in the 1979 Movie on the rebuild Enterprise. As for an overall color, I would lean towards a lighter gray like 36495. Or something like GS Off White.

I built a couple of those. I used Testor’s MM Camouflage Grey for the base color. For post shading, I mixed Testor’s MM Light Sea Grey into the base color, at about a 1 to 3 ratio.

I was quite pleased w/ the results.

MM Camouflage Gray seems like a good choice to me too. You want the TOS BigE to be basically white, but off a bit towards the warm side. MM Light Gray is a bit more towards the cold spectrum of things.

Ok I’m thinking then camouflage gray, no aztec, just a nice slightly off white ship.

Sweet, thanks all.

There was an article in FSM on the TOS ship that is now in the Smithsonian that really showed it to be a primer gray that when under the studio lights looked white. It also pointed out the different markings and nacelle configurations between the two pilot episodes and the regular season episodes. Regards, Bill

THE MODEL BUILDERS REFERENCE VAULT

Uh… Your second link goes to some site other than Starship Modeler, dude. It goes to what appears to be some sort of Russian-based site, going by the URL that it shows - www.killbyte.da.ru

I bought some aztec paint masks for both the NX-01 and the NCC-1701 from “Aztec Dummy” through the CultTVman web site here: http://www.culttvmanshop.com/shop/home.php?cat=347

They work well but takes a lot a patience and careful handling!

That was strange.

It was supposed to be the Star Trek reference page off the SSM site.

Well anyway try this one.

there’s also this:

What Color Is the Enterprise?

summary: the studio model is concrete gray.

I really enjoyed reading Paul Newitt’s article. When I built my AMT 18" 1701 Enterprise and PL 1/1000 ISS Enterprise, I matched the ACE Hardware # 193-D “Shady Cove” paint sample as close as I could. I really liked the slightly green olive tint of this color.
