Top Operation Iraqi Freedom Planes

Hello,

On to my next project: building a few of the most significant aircraft used in Iraq.
What do you all think are the top, say, five. (Helicopters and planes). Any recommendation on kits for these?

Mark

One of my picks would be the C-17 but there are no kits. Then C-130, Apache, Blackhawk, A-10 and then the KC-135. This is my opinion. I am sure others may disagree with me.

Counting total sorties flown, it would have to include A-10, F-16, F-15(both C & E), F/A-18 and KC-135. Helos would include H-60 various forms, AH-64 Apache, AH-1 Cobra, CH-46 Battle Phrog, Hughes Little Birds. There are so many models in vaarious scales of each of these that I wouldn’t know where to start for recommendations. Darwin [alien]

the harrier too maybe?

Helicopters are no doubt THE workhorses in Iraq. I am biased, but I still must put in my two cents in support of the AH-1W Supercobra[:)]
MRC/Academy makes a great 1/35th scale kit, and Cobra Company has an awesome resin update set for it. Also, Twobobs puts out an outstanding decal sheet called ‘Whiskeys in the Mix’.
#1. AH-1W
#2. anything with a dash -60 (Blackhawk)
#3. AH-64
#4. CH-53E
#5. CH-46E
I suppose I need another top five to keep you fixed-wing boys happy [:)]
#1. A-10
#2. A/K/C-130
#3. AV-8B Harrier II plus
#4. F/A-18
#5. any unmanned surveillance aircraft – major players in this conflict

Okay, thanks guys! I think I’ll start with the 'hog, followed by a Blackhawk (two subjects I’ve been meaning to get around to).
It may be time also to get over my unreasonable prejudice against big transports, too, and delve into something like the C-130.

Take care,

Mark
