Growing up during the 80s was awesome and Top Gun? I loved it. Don’t be hatin’ cuz we all know that generation was the best generation to be in… until the rap crap came to the music scene.
My favorite Tom Cruise role was Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder.
Who knew he was a great character actor - funny stuff
So you are saying that the rap cr-p was a better generation? I’d agree all the way.
You don’t find it hypocrytical that you use the lexicon of the genre to express your distaste for it?
Back to TG2, I wouldnt be at all surprised, given the time that has passed, if that old plot device of “bringing someone out of retirement becuase he’s the best we have” is rolled out and put into play.
Oh hell no! Rap is nothing but noise to my ears. Can’t stand hip hop and rap. Give me AC/DC, Van Halen, Aerosmith, etc…
Isn’t Top Gun the movie where the F-14s shot down the Zeros? [:P]
You forgot Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple…
Now there was a movie with a goofy story line, but was made watchable because so much attention to detail captured the feel of being on a carrier.
I think that maybe Goose’s son shows up as a pilot and Mav takes him under his wing. That would bring the storyline full circle.
You’re thinking of a earlier movie, Final Countdown.
We had the fun of playing host to the VF84 guys when they visited Kadena. The pilot hwo was assigned to act as co-ordinator had a little surprise waiting for them on his desk. He dug through his old gun film and had a frame enlarge to about 16X20 and placed it under the plexiglass cover. It showed a beautiful shot of a F-14 . It was ust hitting afterburner and folding its wings. The shot was taken from slightly above and ehind and showed all the readings of his F-15 HUD along with the fire indicator shinning brightly on the right.
It got some laughs and one of the 84 guys had flown in the movie and said that while filming they almost put one of their ships in the ocean because the pilot misjudged and started a manuver too low. He said if you watch in the theater and look hard you can see the ocean spreading from the compression as he got too close.
I believe that is one of the possible plots being shopped around on the net.
Lots of sightings here in san diego. Including val Kilmer who is now called iceberg
Awww…That’s cold man, true but very cold…[:D]
You mean the ummm F-5’s and T-38’s [:)][ap]
My ideal opening line for the movie Titanic*:*
“Iceberg dead ahead!”
I had a thought that just maybe it would have a wargames plot, where the Navy is switching to pilotless fighters and old Maverick, who heads up the Top Gun program won’t change. So Admiral Iceman throws together a group of young “gamers” and challenges old Maverick to a contest to see who is better, a hotshot kid in a lazyboy flying a drone, or a hotshot pilot in an F18?
Of coarse, the plot takes a “Westworld” spin where the machines go off their programming and create a dangerous situation that only Maverick, in his F18, can save all of humanity from.
A few side plots:
Maverick is still a captain because after his girlfriend Charlie left him for another woman, he has an affair with Vipers nineteen year old granddaughter and gets caught. Viper had retired to become the Secretary of the Navy and of coarse, won’t let Maverick out of the Navy because he is keeping an oath to Maverick’s father and knows, if out in civilian life, the guy couldn’t get a job flying rubber doggy doo out of Hong Kong.
Goose’s son is a high level programmer who is over seeing the drone project and is the top “ace” pilot/programmer. Yet he has never flown a real airplane due to his extreme fear of heights and prone to airsickness.
Charlie is the president / owner of the software developement company that is sub- contracted to build the new drone fighters.
Iceman is now an Admiral and in charge of all Naval air operations.
Maverick keeps seeing Goose’s ghost whenever he is out flying a tough mission, which is in reality, riding is motorcyle home at 2am after hitting all the bars.
Sundowner is now a US congressman who, in the end, presents a bill to de-fund the manless fighter program.
Maverick retires from the Navy and takes a job flying Charlie’s corporate jet.
As long as they can get Kenny Loggins to come up with another killer theme song… and get Harold Faltemeyer & Steve Stevens back on their keyboard and guitar for the music…
