Tolland class attack cargo ship kit needed

Can anyone tell me if there is a kit of a Tolland class AKA or more specificaly the USS Trousdale? My great uncle served on this ship in WWII and I would like to make him a model of it. I don’t care what scale it is. I don’t care whether it is just a generic Tolland class boat or if it’s the Trousdale or if it is another ship in the class. Any help would be appreciated.

please…

I’ve offered this gentleman what help I can, over on the Drydock Models site. C’mon, folks - anybody know where to find an old Renwall 1/500 U.S.S. Seminole?

I found a couple of resin kits on the Steel Navy site, but none of the right class. This is the standard, WWII AKA silhouette, with the slightly raked bow, superstructure slightly aft of amidships, and A-frame masts. They were important ships, and not unattractive ones. It’s hard to believe none of the resin manufacturers has ever done one. Jeff - are you there?

I know that Loose Cannon Productions does a 1/700 resin kit of the Haskell class AKA … could that be modified?

The Haskell class ships were APAs (attack transports). The Tolland class were attack cargo ships (AKA). There’s a surprising amount of difference. The hull forms, superstructures, and masts are all quite a bit different; the AKAs had raked bows, the superstructures were set well aft of amidships, and the masts had a distinctive A-frame shape. To convert an APA to an accurate AKA would be just about as difficult as scratchbuilding.

It’s surprising that there haven’t been more AKA kits. These ships were numerous and important. That characteristic AKA silhouette shows up in lots of photos of Pacific landing operations.

Sadly, I think that these fine ships just aren’t glamorous enough to the model companies for them to put into mass production.

That’s really too bad. They’re quite elegant and importent ships.

You can usually find the Seminole on Ebay and swap meets (sometimes). I would suggest posting a request on the Steelnavy, Modelwarships, and Hyperscale forums with a request to buy. Can’t do it here, though, sorry.

Sorry Professor, I’ve been in Atlanta and haven’t been keeping up with the posts here in about a week.

OK. I’ve already asked on Hyperscale and drydockmodelds but will ask on the others mentioned. I’ve looked on eBay. 100.00 bucks!!!. for a really crappy kit!! Fletcher
