Tips, tools, etc., for applying antennas to attachment points??

Am about to apply an antenna to the attachment points — rudder and canopy – of an FW 109 and have come to realize it’s not as easy as it might seem. Any tips, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks. - Vince

What I do is drill a small hole with a #80 bit in the tail. Take a length of the dark colored invisible sewing thread and dip one end in some thick CA. Insert that in the hole and put a drop of accelerator with a pin. If the front end is going to a mast and it is thick enough I will drill the #80 hole through the mast and repair the process first putting the thread though the hole and touching with a tiny drop of CA and then some accelerator. If there is no chance for a hole I will send a tiny flat spot on to and glue to the tip of the mast. Trim the end after the glue is cured.

If the front end is going into a canopy, same size hole, then trim the length so just a tiny bit goes in the hole, hold it with tweezers about an 1/8 inch from the end, apply a tiny drop of CA and insert in the hole.

If after doing this there is tiny sag, take a match, light it and let it burn for a second or two then blow it out. Quickly pass the match under the “wire” without touching it and do not stop moving, so the thread does not melt. Use the smoke as a guide. This will heat the thread and it will shrink nice and tight.

Just curious as to what you are working on… Bf 109 or a Fw 190

Thanks for the thorough explanation. I was out of the hobby for a long time, but just came back. Am researching and prepping to do a 1:32 Hasegawa Fw-190. I think good preparation and research will help make a great model. Again, thanks!
