I need some tips on how to paint a good realistic lookin color scheme on my tamiya m1025 humvee. usually I take a tamiya sand color spray can and lay a few cotes on them but I want to do the Nato pattern on this one. I have the Nato black, Nato green, and Nato brown spray cans…I dont have the money for a good airbrush kit. Any tips on how to do it because I dont want to screw it up and I dont like Half assin these things when they cost 40 bucks lol thanks
There was a article in the Feb 06 version of FSM mag,
heres a link…(its a M998, but should still help)
If you are planning on using spray cans, you will have to mask off each of the colors to get a good camo scheme. You can’t do a freehand camo with spray cans, they spray at too high of a pressure. You can use either masking tape or silly putty as masking material.
Good luck.
Ok, if there is a toy store in your area, go there and buy an egg full of silly putty. Paint the model a base color, Nato Green and let dry for a day. Draw the camo patter you want or look at Feb 06 Fine Scale, there was an article with a hummer and std Nato camo pattern. Roll the silly putty into strings and press along edge of pattern. Mask remaining bulk areas with tape and paper. Spreay second color. Let dry for a day. Remove masking and repeat for the third color.
Have fun
in the same situation as you the only difference is i do have an airbrush but this will be my first attempt at it. gonna try the silly putty method myself . hope all goes well and we can see some pics.
