Tiger ll - surface texture

Apart from the exhaust shrouds, which areas on this (porsche) kit should have a textured or roughened surface to emulate the casting? I have seen how-to’s where all upper surfaces and turret are treated in this way but wanted to confirm first. I would have thought that some of the smaller hatch covers were rolled billet rather than cast.

Well infact its the other way around. All the hatches, armored exhaust covers etc. were cast but the armor plate of the hull and the turret was rolled.

Thank you - if I concentrate on turret hatches, engine intake panels, engine hatches, and the commanders cupola, that should do?

Hmm well without looking in my books … Im not so sure about the engine hatch, its a rather big hatch and could possibly be rolled but Im not sure. I know the airintake covers on the engine hatch was cast. All the other things you mentioned was cast.
You can simulate the rooled texture with a small grinding bit in a motor tool at low speed and then let it bounce on the surface it takes a bit of practice to get it right.

I used TMN’s method for creating the rolled texture on my Tiger I, but I also dabbed some Mr. Surfacer 500 with a stiff brush on the surface for additional texture. Practice on scrap first, as the dremel marks are hard to eliminate. make sure to vary the angle and direction to avoid a uniform look

Thanks guys - texturing will now comence

you just need to try it out on some platicarsd first of you might wreck the kit, if its overdone
what version of the Porche Tiger 2 is it? Tamiya or the Dragon?
the texture isnt as bad as some of the other tanks ie T34
alot of the German tanks were finished of nicely

Its the tamiya - did the parts with liquid cement, and stippled with talcum powder - come out fantastic
