I have been looking up information for a possible diorama for arnhem. I keep on seeing Tiger ll’s being mentioned. Were both style turrets seen, or was it only the Henschel turret? I saw 2 dragon king tiger porsche turrets with markings for the arnhem area.
As far as i know the only Tiger II unit at Arnhem was the 506th, and they only started getting their Tiger II’s at the end of August. So i would have thought these would all have been henschel turreted tanks. So unless there was another unit there or the 506th got a few Porsche turreted tanks, i would of thought they would all have the Henschel turret.
This Tiger II was knocked out in Oosterbeek- the town around which 1st Airborne Division set up their defensive perimeter. Judging from the undercut on the front of the turret, it is a Porsche turreted Tiger II.
Another question, did the 9th and 10th SS have there panzer put into battle? I want to make a dio of a railyard and have a flatcar with a panther and panzer III connected on the railway with a King Tiger and halftrack passing by going into battle
From what i recall, the 9th SS didn’t take part as a Div. They had handed their vehicles over to the 10th to bring them upto strength and then the 9th had gone back to Germany to refit. I think the only part of the 9th that took part as a unit was the recon battalion. Thats the one that stormed over the bridge. But yes, the 10th did have their armour, but i am not sure how much and what type. But by this stage of the war, most pz Div’s would have been equipped with Pz IV’s and V’s. But their may have been Pz III’s. I don’t have anything to hand of OOB’s for arnhem.
I did research and found this site defending arnhem it showed Kampfgruppe knaust and it had pz IV’s and pz III’s
You didn’t post the link to that site. I have heard of that unit, and one of my books at home has full OOB’s for different stages of the Battle.

But if this is the site you mean, that would explain things. It was not a part of 10th SS, but was attached. It was made up of crew’s and tanks from training units, hence the Pz III’s.
I think this a Henschel turret KT. You can still make out the spare track hangers. I remember seeing other pictures of this KT somewhere. Also as I recall it was used in a 1946 movie “Theirs was the glory”.
I am not certain either way. Some porsche turreted Tiger II’s did have spare trach hangers. I can see the rounded shape at the front of the turret, but i’m not sure if thats the turret or the gun mantlet.
In the Cornelius Ryan book " A Bridge Too Far" I believe there is a different photo of the same KO’d Tiger II. It clearly shows a Porsche turret, IIRC. My last read of that book was 5 years ago and I do not have it in my library, surprisingly enough.[^o)]
I found this on Google.

How do you make of this? It looks like the same area. I can’t see the front but the turret doesn’t seem to have the bulging side for the cupola.
On defending arnhem they put up a painted picture of a king tiger. What style of turret does this llok like?
Henschel.
I just watched theirs Is There Glory on youtube and it showed a clip with a KT in it and that was supposed to be the one fromt he actual battle and that too looks like a henschel.
defcon1 Ye, thats a henschel turret as well. As you pointed out, the commanders cupola isn’t jutting out the side.
Here’s another question… Why does Dragon have two King Tiger Porsche Turrets with markings for the 506th schwere panzer abteilung in Arnhem?
The 506th begain getting its Tiger II’s from the 20th August. From what i can tell, tanks were being fitted with either turret in July, taht the month spare track hangers begain to be fitted, hence tanks with both turrets having them. So it may well have been possable that the 506th did in fact get a few tiger II’s with the Porsche turret. I can’t find when the Posche turrets stopped being fitted. So its not totally impossable. And i have often found with kits that give a unit to a vehicle that there is a photo of it somewhere.
I think two were sent to Arnhem before the battle and I think this is what Dragon is depicting.
Are thos 2 axle flat cars there on ?
I don’t know.
