Tiger II Track question

Got another question for the Tiger experts:

Are there only 3 types of Tiger II tracks? The transport tracks, the standard tracks (2 links) and the very late tracks (single link)? The reason I’m asking is I’ve got DML’s #6232 King Tiger Late Production (Ardennes) and want to build it as a mid production (late '44). Obviously I will have to change the tracks but I’m not sure which AM track set to buy. The indie tracks in the kit look like larger Panther tracks. The tracks in my DML #6312 Premium Edition KT (Porsche) have 2 link tracks where one link is much slimmer and has no cleats. I thought I read somewhere that there was also a mid production track but maybe I’m just imagining things[8-]

BTW I did a forum and internet search and couldn’t find much of anything except an ongoing debate of Friuls vs ModelKasten!!

Thanks in advance!

4 different sets of tracks were produced for the Tiger II, 3 combat tracks and 1 transport track.

The 3 combat tracks were:

Gg 24/800/300 which consisted of 46 double links, each double link consisted of 1 bridge link or tread link, 1 connecting link and together with the connecting link there were 3 side links or connecting bars. This type of track used an 18 tooth drivesprocket and was used on the very early Tiger II’s

Gg 26/800/300 which was almost identical to the first one but it only had one connecting link and no side links, and the connecting link was bigger. This type of tracks used an 9 tooth drivesprocket and was used on the majority of Tiger II’s.

Kgs 73/800/152 This is the track that looks like big “Panther” tracks, it was a single link track. This type of track used an 18 tooth drive sprocket, and was put into production very late in the war, however some tanks used them in “Operation wacht am Rein” or “Battle of the bulge” and one early production with the so-called “Porsche” turret was captured in Normandy in 1944 with these tracks mounted, this was probably a test vehicle for these tracks.

/forums/711289/ShowPost.aspxMy prefered brand of aftermarket tracks are Modelkasten. I did a tutorial on them some time ago.

How ever Modelkasten only makes the Gg 26/800/300 and the transport tracks, if you are doing a model with some of the other types of tracks you would have buy them from Friulmodelisimo.

TMN1, thanks for all the information! I remember reading that excellent tutorial!! It really helped when I put together a set of Modelkasten Panzer IV tracks recently!

So I wasn’t imagining a 4th Tiger II track set! I’m pretty sure the one I need is Gg 26/800/300 and it looks like the Magic tracks in DML # 6312 are this type also. Looks like Modelkasten’s SK06 is the set I need.

Im happy that this and my tutorial has been helpful to you.

Yes Sk-6 is the correct set. I don’t know exactly what parts are included in the DML kit but if it has the late style single link track you have to make sure they have also included a 9 tooth drive sprocket in the kit before you get the Modelkasten tracks. My tutorial also applies to the Kingtiger tracks, but on the KT tracks the guidehorns are molded on so it’s a whole lot faster to put together.
