From what I’ve seen in the forums, “Tiger I in Combat” is the holy grail of all Tiger books. I wanted to pick it up, but when I looked, there are several books with the same title, all by different authors. Which one is THE book?
This reminds me of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when he has to pick the one correct grail out of a whole bunch of otherwise fancy wine glasses.
Tigers in Combat has been reprinted alot of times and the first few prints have and are selling for £200 but the latest print is something like £14 I dont know what it is in $
At Amazon.com you can currently order ‘Tigers In Combat, Vol. 1’ by Wolfgang Schneider for around $20.00. This is the softbound version. The hardbound is considerably more. His ‘Tigers in Combat, Vol. 2’ is to be released soon. And no, I do not work for Amazon.com, just one of their customers!
Awesome! Last night I ordered “Tigers in Combat” along with “Sledgehammers: Strengths and Flaws of Tiger Tank Battalions in World War II”. I hope the second one is decent… The reviews were all pretty good.
Honestly, after all of the model related buying lately, I think my fiancee is going to kill me. I think in the last few weeks I have spent at least $500 on stuff. I keep telling her that it is helping me keep my spirits up during the tough chicago winter. Of course, I may sound more credible if during the spring and summer I didn’t use ‘celebrating the good weather’ as an excuse and in the fall I didn’t say I was ‘preparing for the long haul’. Then there is always the ‘but I won’t be able to do this when we have kids’. She love that one.
Well, as long as we aren’t eating Ramen noodles I guess [:D]
I have a copy of “Sledgehammers”. It’s a very interesting read. The author points out, amongst other things, that the Tiger was a better defensive weapon. Too slow, too prone to mechanical problems, too thirsty for fuel to ever be really used as a real ‘breakthru’ weapon as often thought of, or so the author contends. BUT, on defense a terrific weapon, with that high-velocity 88mm and thick defensive armor. Happy reading!
