Tiger 111 of sPzAbt. 502

Here’s some photos of my most recent work finished about 2 weeks ago. This is the Dragon 3-1 Initial Tiger kit. For my first Tiger kit ever it went together quite well. After-market parts are: Eduard one-piece barrel, Eduard PE grill screens, Aber PE tool clamps, Archer dry-transfers, Mig’s Pigments and Karaya metal tracks. The antenna is from a DML set. I used tamiya acrylic paints, lacquer clear-coat, oil wash, oil paint dry-brushing, Mig’s Pigments here and there, and a home-made ‘mud’ recipe. I think it turned out well. Enjoy!

Great looking build! the exhaust is perfect!

Beautiful job Glenn. I am curious why you went with the Eduard barrel since the turned metal one in the kit is so nice?

Congratulations on a perfect build.

Steve

Nice looking tiger for a first(the one in my sig is my first[;)])I agree about the exhausts, tool color looks right+you placed them correctly[tup] rusting and dusting is good, the metallic sheen to give it that armor/metal look is spot on,IMHO the weathering is ok, but overall a great looking and accurate Tiger 1!

Outstanding job! Just started on mine also.Hope it turns out half as nice as yours.

Looks great Glenn. I’m glad you left off the weird storage bins, I think it looks better without it on the Initial. Weathering is nicely done as other commented.

I like the ‘kit’ barrel. What I wasn’t so keen on was the two-part ‘muzzle brake’. I glued the two halves together and then started to clean-up the seams on the inside of the brake. That’s when I gave up and since I already had the Eduard barrel in my accessories stash I used it instead. You may wonder why I was worried about the ‘inside’ surfaces of the muzzle brake? Well I’ve judged armor at IPMS contests for years and that’s one thing I look for, seam lines. So I just applied the same standards I use when judging others to myself. The Eduard barrel is very easy to use. The only clean-up I had was removing a couple of rough edges with some sandpaper or a fine file. If I hadn’t mentioned it noone would know.

Glenn

Great job! The weathering is very realistic.

Nice work, as I said earlier, you have done a wonderful job

Excellent work. The exhaust is just perfect. How come with such a derelict exhaust, the rest of the vehicle looks so clean and new?

Good job, too clean. It’s more fun to include this Tiger in a ‘‘saynette’’ or a diorama.

Well as they were off-loading at the railhead they were met by a group of local teenagers who having a car-wash to raise money for the local diary. So wanting to make a good impression they backed up Tiger 111. Since the kids weren’t prepared to wash an entire tank they washed as far as the soapy water lasted, leaving the rear undone! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Glenn

p.s.- I’ve been doing armor for about 2 1/2 years. This is my 6th kit finished in that amount of time, not including 2 artillery pieces. I try to do a new technique on each model so that I can improve my skills as an treadhead.

I’ll buy the car wash story[:D]

LOL, but that would be kind of cool if that actually happened, I’d love to be one of the teenagers![:D]

Me too!

Well Glenn! You did really well with the Tiger! I love it! I don’t understand the tools scattered about the tank though… can you explain that to me? ummm, as for the exhaust vs. clean tank… tanks do get cleaned, and exhausts dooo get rusty despite the tank being cleaned Zokissima. A tank doesn’t sit and collect mud as it ages. Nah, a kind loving crew would respect their beast, it’s the only lifeline they have to survive the war, not to mention, the tank was their potential coffin too! Would you want to go in a dirty tank? Didn’t think so, and neither did the Germans… Respect your machine, and it’ll treat you good, much like we do to our cars. Forget the muddy, rusty tanks you see in the pictures, that was a picture of that specific time, doesn’t mean THAT tank sat in it’s mud for life!!! Excellent Job Glenn, I really do love it man!

Nice, the mud at the rear looks good as does the exaust. Did you do the rust stains with the MIG powders?

I just saw your Wespe, but I wish I saw this first, it’s the best. I think you did a great job on the tracks, the colour and wear look spot on. I was going to skip getting this kit and wait for the late tiger but you did a great job on yours I’ll just have to pick one up and hope it comes out half as good as yours. Good one mate!

Great looking kit. I really like the weathering, especially the exhaust.
