Here is my completed Skybow 1/48 Tiger 1 Late. The kit is an absolute gem and I would recommend it to anybody without hesitation, it’s only weak point is its tracks, but then nothings perfect.
The kit was painted with Tamiya and Gunze acrylics and weathered with Mig pigments, pastels, washes, filters, well everything really [:)]. The build was done OOB with the exception of a set of PE engine grills and some replacement tracks.
This is my first armor build in about 25 years and I’m pretty happy with how it came out. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Great work there James. The weathering is superb (especially the subtle chipping)!!!
The insigna on the turret bin looks a little too clean to me, but other than that, you’ve got a fantastic looking cat there.
Just a question about the zimmerit. Is that part of the kit, or something that you’ve added.
I’m not tiger expert, only built about three in my life, but I will say that this looks great… I think the zimm looks a little too big but that’s no fault of your own! Awesome build mate!
Wonderful build Darren! I love the molded zim (wish Dragon would do that with their 1/35 kits!). Excellent camo and weathering. Can’t tell it’s your first in so many years. Keep it up.
I could not tell it was 1/48 either. Super job. You mentioned the kit tracks. What was the problem? And what did you replace them with? It turned out nice.
Mathew the kit tracks have a nice enough level of detail but they are a really soft rubber which didn’t form well over the road wheels. I gave they a few practice tries before painting them but in the end I just replaced them with Skybow’s indi styrene links for the late tiger. They were a breeze to use and paint, it’s just a pity they’re not included in the kit as an option.
Darren,
Nice build.
One comment thou, you may want to blend in the Tiger logo a little bit, so it wont look like the tank just roll out from the factory (unless this is what you want it to be). My[2c]
For a 1/48 scale I thought that the zim looks decent enough.
hi man[:D]-- nice work!-- i have to agree with the others, it looks much more like 1/35-- didn’t know 1/48 could look so good-- super![tup]-- treadwell- p.s. nice camo job
