hi guys, i’m thinking about my first scratchbuild project and i fancy a tie fighter in my warplane collection. I’ve been all over the net, but i cant find a set of three view plans to work from, has anyone got any ideas? Also, if the tie works, i might have a shot at an x-wing. hope sonmeone out in finescale land can help.

There is a set of books that came out after each relaes of the original Star Wars movies (sorry episode IV to VI). They are called the Sketch Book of Star Wars, The Sketch book of Empire Strikes Back, and The Sketch book of Reutrn of the Jedi. The are not blueprints but they do give some really detailed drawings of the x-wing and TIE Fighters. There is no dimensions on them. Hope this helps. I am not sure where you can get a copy except may be Amazon.com.

The Star Wars Sketch Books are just that … conceptual sketches that differ from the movie versions in several areas. Fine Molds TIE fighters are rumored to have been made from studio shooting models, and are as accurate as you are likely to get for fictional spacecraft. They are 1/72 scale. Grab one and scale up or down as needed for your project.

Phil, you are absolutely right but if you want to scratchbuild a TIE fighter not buy one then the sketchbook is actually a good starting point. You can think of it this way, if it does not match the movie perfectly then you can always claim it a variant like many real life aircraft/car/armour, etc. Never meant it to be a gospel source of info. just a helpful source.

someone up there has the drawings (possibly fan made) for original T.I.E. , Defender, Interceptor and I think bomber variant.

Good luck with your build jeff and thanks to David for the links. I have a set of TIE’s and other Imerial craft I’d like to work on as well. I can always use good references.
