"Thunderbolt" on Netflix

Just thought I would mention, for anyone interested in P47 Thunderbolts, Netflix has an old war department film called Thunderbolt, about some P47s stationed in Corsica, during WWII. It’s a war department film, so not the best, but gives a decent look, in color, at how the P47s there looked. I love watching anything about WWII, so thought there might be some here who would like it.

Greg

Thanks! I will check it out!

Thanks for the heads up.

Watched it last night. good show, thanks for the heads up.

Sounds great I’ll have to check it out. I’ll post a link to this thread in the Thunderbolt GB too if you don’t mind.

Yes, it is a wartime documentary done by the same filmmaker who did “Memphis Belle”. Netflix has a new film out called “Five Came Back” about five Hollywood film directors, their wartime experiences and afterwards. They are also re releasing some of their work on the network, such as those films.

My wife’s uncle flew Thunderbolts during the war. The saying was;

“If you want to get the girls, fly a Mustang. If you want to get home in one piece, fly a Thunderbolt.”

Those things could take an incredible amount of punishment. The A-10 is appropriately named.

Read Robert Johnson’s account of his first combat mission. He came home on five of 18 cylinders!
