Hi guys! I have this old 1/72 Microscale decal of a B-17F ‘Thunderbird’.Anybody who can help me with the exact location of the oversizednational insinia on top of the port and under the starboard wing? All references I’ve seen showed side-view drwawings only.Many thanks.

Hey, there! Do you still need that information? i thought that i’d be helpful since you helped me out. well, that and the fact that i love the B-17. [:)] I have a few references on the B-17, but i think the insignia changes location depending on the time period, so which insigina is available, the circle star with the red dot (Pre-1942), just the circle star (1942), the circle star with wings and red lining (1943), or the blue/white circle star with wings? Is “Thunderbird” the aircraft name? I’ll try to dig up some pics. [:D]
Found this photo of a restored B-17 painted and marked as “THUNDERBIRD”
The NASM also has a huge mural of Thunderbird titled Fortress Under Fire.

Try running a google image search using B-17 and Thunderbird. You get lots of diffent pics. Some might help.

Thanks for the photo Ray. Now I know there are more than just one B-17 Thunderbird. The one I’m looking for is a B-17F and the one on the pic is a B-17G.
Yes Shrikes, I still need the info. My Academy B-17F is reserved for this project and I can’t start until I’m sure where the nat. insignia will go. This particular B-17F sports the name Marnita 2 THUNDERBIRD. The logo is the same as the one from the photo sent by Ray. This aircraft was based in England in 1943 and has a non-standard oversized white star on blue circle on the wings measuring 110 inches in diameter on the real a/c (1/72 decal nat. insignia is 1 1/2"). I was goofing around on eBay and found the old Super Scale decal sheet for the Thunderbird but in 1/48. In the eBay posting, you can scroll down to the larger pic provided of the sheet and just make out where the national insignia goes. I know it’s not the full size image you were probably looking for, but it still gives you an idea where the stars go. Sometimes you just have to improvise. Good luck!
