Thud IP area?

Guys, what was the color of the area just ahead of the Instrument panel top glare shield, under the windshiled section of the canopy??

Also the color of the glare shield itself woulb be matt black I assume? The instructions are not very clear about this :frowning:

Any pix would be extremely welcome…

According to my instruction manual for the old Monogram Thud kit, that area would have been flat black. Would probably want to do a dark grey wash on it, too.

Flat black it is. I think the innner canopy framing might even be black? Google should help you out, otherwise I can post some pics from my home computer later.

Thanx lads, I did try google, but could not find any really clear pix. It does seem to be dark, so I think i will go for a dark grey to show a little fading maybe.

In one pic a madler put what looks like a “molded” OD canvas over the area, any idea what this might be, a dust cover or something?

I will also add a few random electrc wire looms to make it a little more busy…it is a very large area to be so bare.

Guys, I am a tad confused by this HUD now. It is mounted infront of the glareshield as per instructions, but clearly the line of sight will be obscured by the glareshield.

The shield can not go lower, it sits ontop of the IP, the HUD can not go higher as there is no raised mound for it… pleas put me straight here LOL

Thanx

That must be the trumpeter kit; monogram’s looks much more accurate. Glad I didn’t but a trumpy, lol!

I’m not sure I can answer you’re question Theuns but I’d bet the Trumpy instrument panel is too big and sticks up too far. I Know on the real thing the panel is raised above the cockpit a bit but not to that extent. I’ll try and hunt down some pics cause I have this kit too but plan on using the Aires cockpit-which I can take alook and see how Aires does it…

Rats!! OK well it seems the kit must be incorrect then with the IP and glareshield mounted to high. To late to fixmitm, will have to makedue…

Last mquestion, I see some thuds had what looks like a OD canvas that covered the area of the sheidl with the HUD sticking out of it. I have also seen this on the F-1-4. Was this an “in field” thing? Maybe it would detract from the otherwize wrong shape of the kit.

Since the HUD /IP seems top be so inacurate, I decided to add the “canvas” I have seen in some pix.

If it is not correct so be it LOL I just like the look and the texture it brings to this bare area. I took a small piece of tissue paper, glued it on with white wood glue, wrinkled it and did a shadow wask to darken the creases.

There are several photos of this area on my website:

This shows it pretty well:
