I finished Hasegawa’s 1/48 A6M2-N “Rufe” tonight. I gave it a semi-gloss finish by mixing Testor’s Glosscote and Dullcote.
The kit came with bombs. I built and painted them, using the PE fins. In the end, I decided not to add them. The PE sway braces have the locking nuts, and I didn’t want to hide that little detail.
The photoetched flaps were primed with Future, and painted Alcad Aluminum. These were overcoated with a mixture of Gunze Clear Green and Future for the green Aotake.
Nice work…again. Seriously, when will you publish? I am sure there are alot of builders that look to your work and say “I wish I could do that” or “how does he do that?”…me included…looking forward to seeing your T-Bolt!
My hat is off to you (once again!) for a superb job! I truly hope that you are at least considering publishing a “how to” book on super detailing, you would sell a million copies and be rich (you are already famous)! I want an autographed copy! Thanks for sharing with us all!
Thank you Living Legend, Marc, Joe, Rick, Brian, Bgrigg, yardbird, rrmelend, Thad, and Darren !
Joe, Brian, and Bgrigg - publishing and distributing a book would be very expensive. I will, someday, be producing videos that I’ll sell from my website. They will be available in both DVD and VHS (NTSC). I just need to remember to set up the video camera while I’m building.
Darren - if my order from Squadron arrives soon (usually 4 to 5 days; today makes a week [:(!] ), I can get back to work on the TBolt. I want to paint the antiglare panel before I install the cockpit, and I’m waiting for the paint (along with Hasegawa’s Fw 190A-3 !).
wooverstone - it’s a misconception that the single-color Rufes and Zeke 21s were painted gray. I used SAC Bomber Tan on this one, as it closely matches the pics shown on the j-aircraft site (a MUST site if you’re building WW II Japanese aircraft). There are pics of pieces of the skin on the page:
Pix, how do you get the decals to snuggle down so well? I can get 'em down through the panel lines, but I can never manage to run a wash through them afterwards. Oh, and needless to say, awesome build.
