I have promised myself that one day, no matter what, I will own a T-72 [:D]
HAy guys i found a site just like it in english http://www.tankmuseum.ru/restor.html to bad we dont have anything like that here in the us that would be cool.
I read in a book about the excavations that go on around Stalingrad (Volgagrad) that it is not very special to find armor vehicals buried or sunk. There are fields that just plowing the ground turns up hundreds of war reminents - in some areas the bodies and abandoned equipment was just covered where they lay after the battle - whole villages were erased and buried.
Also - think of all of the pictures from the Great Patriotic War of tanks almost submerged in water filled craters or bogs.
As for the Pacific - airplane “detectives” have been finding “lost” planes for years. There was just recently a show on Discovery (ot the History Channel) about the search and discovery of Yamamoto’s flight. Ballard (of the Titanic fame) also has searched for ships in Ironbottom Sound and believes he found the wreck of PT-109. At Midway he found the Yorktown.
As for tanks and other vehicles - thery weren’t as prevalent in WWII Pacific theater and most of the wrecks were on beaches.
I do know of one M-48 that was the hull of one tank and the turret of another that was buried in Vietnam when the unit rotated back to the states (can’t bring back an extra tank - the orginal tanks had been written off).
Saransk
I don’t think anyone has said it yet so…
DIORAMA ANYBODY???[}:)]
Ja, it’s a dio of mud with the tank as a filler.[;)]
