Hey folks, I am going to attempt a small HO diorama for my local Hobby Store, and having never attempted this I picked up some things from Caboose Hobbies (shameless plug) in Denver, CO. It seems to me that this is an English Style cottage following the Thomas Kincade formula style for winter scenes. I guess my question is what is the best snow for HO scale dioramas, and the best products to use. I found the diorama material at the store to very very crude, and I am almost tempted to do a shadow box rather than a diorama.
My advice would be to start with better source material…something a little less sentimental and never look at a painitng by Kincaid again, its just bad art.
More seriously, I would check with the Railway guys about what they use for HO scale snow…most likely Woodlands Scenics snow. And I know that 5 min epoxy can make great icicles
Did in fact consult Mr. Dekkar Zimmerman at Hobbytown (shameless plug). We visited Caboose hobbies again in Denver Colorado and I found everything I needed, but his advice was peerless. I saw his diorama at our local train store in Colorado Springs and saw his interpretation of mining railroads here. It was a real eye opener. I spoke to a few folks here at our local IPMS and some railroad chaps in remission and gained some useful insights into what is good and what is popular about dioramas so I think I am sorted for now.

Be neato to have a M5 Stuart that came over the creek parked in front of the house. The hatch pops open and the soldier in side says “Home for Christmas Ma! Going to England next month, so thought I’d show my tank off.”
“Well Lord love you Thomas Kincade! Be carefull with that big thing over there!”
“Sure enough mom. Hey, maybe I’ll take up painting and do a picture of the old house while I’m sitting around in Jolly Old!”
