thinning verniers

Has anyone ever thinned down the verniers on Gundam / Ma.K kits?

The 1/100 MG verniers are pretty darned thick, thinner would be nice, but I dont want to spend the next four months sanding and polishing them down smooth again before I do an NMF on them.

thanks

David

if you mean by making the thickness of the injection kit vernier thinner than the one provided by Bandai then the only way that I know is putting it on the low speed electric drill and scrapping out the inside… Yea I know this sounds silly but that’s the only way that I know and also seen few modellers doing…

Other than that you will need to get those metal vernier kits to replace…

there are several different version on the market or will be on the market…

MetlSkuk carries those and will also carry some of replacement resin parts for MG kits from Korean modellers…

Thanks DJ

I was hoping not to have to chuck the things up and run them on the drill, it was all I coudl think of, and works with the larger ones but the really tiny ones may have to go as is.

Im not familiar with the company you mention and a search of the term “resin verniers” came up with nothing useful. Got a link by any chance?

thanks

David

try this

The simplest way to thin the throats of rocket exhausts is to run a countersink up them- I use an old chuck from a cordless drill and grind in by hand. Gives a nice thin edge to the rim, which is close enough for me. You can do the same thing with some wide or spherical rotary files or Dremel bits if the engine bell is very short. Heres a link to a picture, but I’ve found them at the local hardware store.

Hi Andrew

thanks for the link, I may give this a shot. On two of the bigger bells i ran them chucked in my drill and used my Xacto to shave them down. the other bells insert inside of larger bells, or have no real attachment point (and there are a LOT of these smaller bells). Im going to keep at it, thanks for the tip!
