can Humbrol’s Model Filler be thinned? I need to fill out a lot of small dents and scratches on a large surface, any alternatives to model filler are also welcome.
Squeeze out a little bit somewhere and drop some nail polish remover (the acetone kind) in it & mix it around. It works with other putties. Maybe it will work with Humbrol.
Thanks, I’ll give it a try. Can I just use plain acetone?
Maybe, but nail polish remover has the acetone watered down just right to where it won’t really rip into plastic while acetone alone is brutal on plastic. I kinda like not having to do the extra step of diluting acetone, so I use nail polish remover.
OK, that makes sense, I’ve seen Acetone do it’s stuff…
Thanks for your help.
I find Liquid Poly or Plastic Weld work very well
Seconded on the glue front, I’ve used glue from the Revell blue squeezy things to make the putty finer and more “liquidy”, but beware, it’ll tear through the plastic even worse than just putty itself if you’re not careful (as I wasn’t).
I always use Liquid Poly as I find this gives the putty not only a finer texture, but also more bite, leading to a better finish.
