Thinner for Spraying Microscale Clear Coats

Hi all,

I’ve been scouring the web for advice and not found it yet (lots of discussion about how flat is flat, but that’s all I’ve turned up…) – what’s the thinner for the Microscale clear coats? I’ve applied them by brush in the past but would really prefer a sprayed finish, yet nowhere on the packaging or Microscale’s website is there any advice about what to thin them with.

My guess would be distilled water, but isopropyl alcohol would also be a possibility.

I’m down in Australia, we can’t get Future here, and Tamiya X-22 has only given me orangepeel through the AB so far, so the Microscale finishes look like the next stop. All advice would be most appreciated.

When I brush Microscale on, I use plain tap water to clean my brush and it works just fine. I would imagine that distilled water would be the best way to go.

If you have both distilled water and isopropyl alcohol, you should try both and let us know how it works out.

Hey Mike,

I know this doesn’t answer your original question, but have you tried a thinner mix? X-22 works better around 2-3 parts thinner to one part paint, with a lower air pressure.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll give that a go. Previously I’ve thinned it as if it was a pigmented paint and while it went through the AB okay, it sure dried lumpy!
