Hiya,
Just got word from my Dad that Trumpeters newest release is in at our LHS…[;)]
I am looking forward to seeing this beaut…!!! He said she is priced at about $75. My Dad has seen the golden child first hand.
From what he saw of it, he said the detailing is very nice. Then again this is the same man who worked on these things at Pax Riv. (Gotta Love em…)
So I know what I’m going to do before I go to work later on today…[:p] Well I figured I’d give ya a heads up…
Let ya know more once I get my hands on one of these things.
Flaps up, Mike
Mike,
Can’t wait for your report - but $75 - nasty. Surely that’s not in 1/48 scale?
Come to think of it, a Vigilante in 1/48 WOULD be rather on the large-ish side…lovely plane, though.
Hiya Lee,
I forgot to mention, YES… it tiss 48th scale…!!! [:p][;)]
Counting down till Ron opens up at 11am… 8.5 hrs to go then again whos counting…
Flaps up, Mike
My card has been charged by Squadron.com so mine should be here in a few days! This is a long awaited addition to my collection.
I have it pre ordered through Squadron. Mike, hurry up and give us a preview of it. My model building fingers are itching.[:D]
Picked one up yesterday at the LHS. It’s big & looks good in the box. Truth will be in the building of course, but first impression is very favorable.
Regards, Rick
$75 though. Still too steep for my blood. I’m really starting to get priced out of this hobby.
I know what you mean. My credit card went Ouch when I picked this one up. But as we modelers demand new, more highly detailed kits, there will be a price to pay.
Regards, Rick
Shop around I have my pre ordered through www.hobbylandinc.com for $55.99. LHS price is $80.00.
yeah, I just ordered it through great models at $56.20 - I’d hate to see the price tag at Jan’s
Roll models has it for $56.25. There is a good review of the kit here:

Seriously guys! That’s very good news! I’m just afraid that as the kit manufacturers see that we’re willing to pay $75 for this kit they they’ll think we’ll be willing to pay $85 for the next one. And if we’ll pay $85 for that one then we’ll pay $95 for the one after that. You see where I’m going with this? Pretty soon the high prices will be the norm, not the exception. I think the Vigilante has got to be one of the prettiest airplanes ever developed. I’m hoping Monogram comes out with it one of these years. I’ll pay the $26 bucks they’ll probably charge, not $70 (or even $55 for that matter).
Eric
While I agree with you in concept. In this day and age and with the parts breakdown of the kit , I really don’t think that $55.00 is too expensive.
thanks for the heads up Mike!![tup]
My kit was delivered yesterday. I haven’t removed any of the parts out of the plastic bags or test fitted anything. By looking at the instructions, I see one thing I don’t like. In step 10, page 7, by looking down the intakes, you will be able to see the wheel well box. It looks like the engine compressor section is partially hidden by the wheel well box. It could be an optical illusion ( as I said I haven’t test fitted any of the parts ). If this is the case, even with after market intakes, this will hard to correct.
If any one is planning on using the engines for another project or showing the engines removed, they are lacking many items. They do not have the engine driven gear box or oil pump accessory housing included. Plus dozen of other items which will have to be added.
On the plus side, the recessed engraving looks great. The wheel wells look great. Very good looking cockpit, except for the deep ejector marks on the cockpit side walls, which will have to be filled and sanded.
Overall, it is a good kit and I am looking forward to building it. I am going to hold off until I see if a set of AM intakes are released though.
Just saw it at the LHS today. Pretty cheap here in Japan, at only $54 USD. As mentioned, it looks very good in the box.
That box art, however…kinda “primitive,” don’t you think? Looks good from across the room, though.
The first thing I noticed about the box art is, the landing area on the carrier is full of parked aircraft. I hope the RA-5 is not coming in from a mission and is going to land.[:O]
What is a vigilante?
A person that takes the law into his own hands, usually by hanging someone thought to be guilty of a crime without bothering with the judge and jury.
$55 is more like it. I would love to support my LHS, but $80 vs $55? That’s almost a 50% premium, kinda steep price to justify. Here in NYC, sales tax is 8.25% so that any potential savings from shipping also gets wiped out.
LOL!!
A 1/48 Vigilante?? man that’s big. Has anyone started building it yet?
Dan
