I was looking at aircraft shirts on Ebay and came across a fairly nice P-47 shirt and the description made me laugh. It said:
“The P-47 THUNDERBOLT was featured in the Movie PEARL HARBOR !” [(-D]
Did I miss that part of the movie? All I saw was a few P-40’s. I didn’t know we had Thunderbolts stationed at Pearl Harbor. [:D] [;)] [:o)]
I wish people would learn about the subject they are describing before they post it on Ebay.
Mike,
The scene in the movie “Pearl Harbor” that featured the P-47 was just after the scene where the Japanese carried out their amphibious landing on Waikiki Beach (the shot had Daimond Head in the background).
hmmm i believe it was in the newer movie on pearl harbor. you know after the hero gets into the air and shoots down all the japanese planes. amazing how people will say anything to sell a product.
I used to work at an Army/Navy store. Near the register there were bandanas (this was in the 80’s) that “celebrated” all of the services. The Army one promoted the Special Forces, the Marine one Force Recon, etc. The one that floored me was the one for the USAF, it displayed a F-14. Now I know most people might not be able to distinquish the differences, but it said US NAVY on the side!!
I totally agree with you[8D] I was searching e-bay for 1/32 aircraft and saw an individual selling a World War One B-17 solid model in 1/32 scale[xx(] Can you imagine[:p]
I checked the demensions and it turned out to be 1/72 scale so I sent an e-mail to the seller and they removed the item[;)] Some of the stuff they push there is really off the wall[:D]
One of my favorite stories involves a friend of mine. Like me Steve is into airplanes, probably more so since he has the money to indulge in the hobby of aviation. Anyways, one day a sales rep came into his store with a collection of plastic airplanes that kinda looked like the ones you get from Corgi, but they were definately NOT Corgi. Steve bought the collection for the laughs and when I saw them, and the boxes they came in, I had to laugh also. The more memorable of them: B-17, described as a Classic Luftwaffe bomber from WWII, Me 109, The classic Japanese fighter, A P-51 that is described as ‘one of the best carrier borne bombers ever built’ and the one that really cracked me up: Rolls Royce Spitfire, a true Italian classic that served as front line equipment well into the seventies. There were 24 A/C in the set, not a one of them was right. B-25 with Japanese markings, Lancaster with US markings etc etc. This always cracks me up to see what idiots can come up with.
It is easy to see why all of these internet urban legends get spread around the world so quickly. People don’t seem to think and research anything before they speak anymore. It is obvious they are not modelers. [:D] [;)]
Here is the shirt if you are interested in what it looks like.
