This is the first time I have seen the salt trick put into pictures. Excellent stuff…
As for the coral idea, I think its good, unless you decided to put it in a tank of water for realism and it desolves. he he he[:D]
Love the Rufe…

Thanks! Don’t think my cuttles would like the paint, though…LOL
top view so far:
This is comming along very nicely. Cant wait to see the end result.
Here is a view of the pitted bottom:
Nose on, and some sludge and rust washes:
Looking good so far. I might have missed this earlier but, is this going to be in a diorama? If so what is the context behind the fire? Thanks.
Lookin good man, I cant wait to see what this looks like when its done.
Best. Subject. Line. EVER.
…and great job on the model also!
Thanks all…the “rufe is on fire” is a spoof on a Bloodhound Gang song : “the roof is on fire”…which I keep on singing incessantly during this build. My wife is totally sick of it!
It is going to be a representation of an Aleutian based aircraft, found in about '46…somewhat rusted out and damaged, hence the little bits of lilac paint still clinging to the control surfaces.
Neat…but why purple?
Or Am I being stupid?
There were rumours, none substantiated, that several of the japanese aircraft based out of the Aleutians were painted lilac, purple, or mauve. The Tamiya kit directions state this in several places, but of course, the jms’s poo-poo the idea harshly. Can’t really blame them, there aren’t too many records of paint schemes, but lilac would certainly be a good match for the wind-ridden scrubland of that bare area.
Here is a really great site all about Japanes paint in ww2:

A quick question for you japanese aircraft experten out there…was the cradle for the Rufe made from wood or metal?
did manage to get some work done on the Rufe this weekend, the dolley, etc:
Wow. Looking really good. Nice rare subject too, thanks!
Very Cool and Well Done !
Bud
The hardest part was getting the canopy glass dirty after spending so much time keeping it clean! Several of the panes were removed, and new framing made from plastic card:
Very Cool
You did a GREAT Build
Bud
That is just incredible![8D] To make an aircraft look aged by many years in mere weeks is awesome. Great job![bow]
Eddie
Thanks! It certainly has been a “learning experience” ! Hopefully, I’ll have the diorama done by next weekend…unless work gets in the way. (It’s a tough life)
Here is a shot of some of the canopy damage:
