Thought I would share a few pics of my recently completed P-61 build that had been stalled for sometime. Turns out to be a fairly nice kit when finished, especially when you can pick it up at Hobby Lobby for less than $25. I airbrushed Apple Barrel Gloss Black thinned with washer fluid and then cleared with Tamiya rattle can Semi-Gloss clear after the decals.

I have a bunch of them and never even noticed. Used them primarily on model rockets and for sludge washes on plastic modes.
Nice finish on that old Monogram kit!
I second using Apple Barrel and the other craft store brands, Americana and Folk Art. They are very reasonably priced, they are very useful for scale modeling work, not just for weathering and washes, but they can be airbrushed, though it helps to let the paint settle a little for a smoother finish. I use them on figures, too, because as water-soluable paints, I can use them on my wet palette.

@Shoop1 : Now that’s some exceptional work on this kit. It looks like you’ve managed to overcome the problems with the leading edge of the wings around the air intake areas as well as the canopy and wing root fit issues. Fantastic work on this beautiful bird and a turn out that I’m sure you’re proud of.

That turned out fantastic! Just goes to show you that a master builder can do wonders with a “vintage” kit. Glad to see that another modeler is using the craft acrylics. The cost of kits,paints, and glues keep going up which makes modeling hard when you’re on a fixed income.
